From when it was first released on Cartoon Network back in November 2013 to when the final episode aired in January 2019, Steven Universe captivated audiences of all ages, making this cartoon one of the many that has entered the Hall of Fame.

Although the cartoon is no longer airing, fans of the show are still moved by every life lesson and pivotal moment they witnessed on the show. So much so that they’re begging creator Rebecca Sugar for a continuation. But will they ever receive a Steven Universe revival? And, more importantly, will it be in the same way that they all know and love? Here’s what we know so far!

Steven Universe’s story may not be finished just yet!

In an interview with Variety, Rebecca Sugar reminisced about her show, Steven Universe, that just turned 10 years old in November 2023.

As per the media outlet, Sugar recalled the ins and outs of the making of Ruby and Sapphire’s wedding, her collaboration with Estelle to produce amazing songs like “Stronger Than You” and “Here Comes a Thought“, and the producer also touched on the possibility of the show returning if there is enough of a demand. Sugar expressed:

"“I would really, really appreciate it if everyone who would be interested in something like that would make a ton of noise and make it really known — because I would be thrilled to explore that. I think in this current media landscape, if there’s a huge amount of public demand, then that is something that becomes impossible to ignore.”"

Sugar added that she has a profound love for the characters and the universe of the Cartoon Network series, making it all the more easy for her to return to the studio to pump out more episodes for fans.

Needless to say, Sugar wouldn’t just do what she’s done before, like have Steven Universe and the Gems combat the higher ups of their world or detail the backstory of Rose Quartz even further. Rather, she would come back to the scene touching on new themes; adding on to the masterpiece she and her team created. Sugar said:

"“I know these characters in this world very well, and there’s so many interesting things in store for them and aspects of their personality that they’re still grappling with that I’m interested in exploring. Even just our rules and our lore and the meaning behind why the characters are the way they are is so full that, if I had an opportunity to work with them again, they really take on a life of their own.”"

Fans could get the chance to learn more about their favorite characters or even meet new gem fusions that Rebecca Sugar is more than happy to introduce to the world! The possibilities are endless!

Fans hope the original cast members may also return!

Should Sugar opt to have the Steven Universe revival follow the lives of our main characters, Steven, Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst, we hope to have the original cast members return to reprise their respective characters. After all, these talented voice actors are what made the show great!

Some fans expressed their concern over Zach Callison’s (Steven) voice, as it’s much deeper than the very first episode of the title. Even so, since the animated series shows Steven growing older and mature, there’s a very good chance that Callison’s voice may pose little to no problem for the revival.

So long as the cast and crew are all for it, it’s possible that Steven Universe could have a spin-off arrive in the near (or late) future. Only time will tell, but we’re crossing our fingers in the meantime and as Rebecca Sugar asked, making some noise!

Next. Animated shows that survived the 2023 cuts, and the ones that didn’t. dark
