The special is meant to focus and highlight Patti LaBelle and Tanya Tucker. And so most of the performances this evening for the two icons are meant to honor them. The two singers will also be taking the stage themselves for their own performances, as we get a treat to their talent!
Patti LaBelle is a R&B singer who’s known as the “Godmother of Soul.” She started out her career in the ’60s with her group, Pattie LaBelle and the Bluebelles. One of their most recognizable songs is “Lady Marmalade.” She went on to having a successful solo career in singing, as well as a known actress. Her first album was “Patti LaBelle,” which featured the hit song “You Are My Friend.”
Tanya Tucker is a known figure in the country music world, as the singer and songwriter found fame in 1972 when she was only 13 years old with the song “Delta Dawn.” Her first album was “Delta Dawn,” the same name as the song, and she was big especially in the ’70s. Though her impact and career continue to this day with her most recent album in 2023, “Sweet Western Sound.”
Other women in the industry who have made an impact like Aretha Franklin, Sinead O’Connor, and Tina Turner will also be recognized by the nine performers tonight. Check out the full list of performers, what they’re singing, and who they’re honoring below. And if you keep scrolling down, we go more in-depth to highlight some of our favorite artists:
