Wish won’t be on Disney+ in time for Christmas or New Year’s (release date predictions)
By Sandy C.
A must-have each Thanksgiving season is a sweet and heartwarming family movie. And, this year, there’s no shortage of fuzzy feels thanks to Disney’s Wish. The only downside, is that you won’t be able to enjoy Disney’s latest animated movie from the comfort of your home as it is only coming out in theaters.
Wish follows Asha, a clever and charming teen who lives in the Kingdom of Rosas, which is ruled by King Magnifico. Asha senses darkness ahead and the feeling that something bad is going to happen to her beloved home. Not able to shake off these emotions, Asha wishes on a star. The following day, to Asha’s surprise, a star (appropriately named Star) with magical powers arrives to help Asha i her attempt to save Rosas.
Ariana DeBose voices Asha while Chris Pine brings King Magnifico to life. The cast also includes Alan Tudyk, Evan Peters, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, and Natasha Rothwell. So we’ve got a heartfelt story and amazing cast, all we need is turkey and pie to accompany your watch as you gather around the dinner table. Unfortunately, if we want to watch this movie, the setting is going to look a little different.
Wish streaming release predictions
The movie is coming to us just in time for Thanksgiving with the release date of Nov. 22. But that doesn’t mean we’ll be able to watch the movie from the comfort of our own home. To enjoy Wish this season, you’ll need to go to your local movie theater as Wish is only releasing on the big screen.
There is no official Disney+ release date for the movie, but it’s a safe bet it won’t be streaming by Christmas or even New Year’s. Let’s look at the streaming release dates for previous Disney+ titles to get a idea of when to expect Wish on the small screen.
What’s On Disney+shares that The Little Mermaid streamed on the platform 103 days after its release date. This is the most days between a theater release and streaming, while the shortest is 30 days, for Encanto and Strange World. Now, for Wish, we won’t be waiting 103 days, but it won’t be streaming as early as Encanto did.
My best guess is that the wait will be right around 60 to 90 days. This puts our streaming release prediction in late January 2024 or mid to late-February. Of course, as soon as we learn more details, we’ll update this post to make sure you’re the first to know!
