We are more than ready to see what comes next in The Good Doctor season 7. Unfortunately, fans have been waiting longer than they’re used to for new episodes because of the writers’ and actors’ strikes, but we finally have a great update to share with our readers. Though we didn’t get a new installment of the beloved ABC medical drama this fall like we were expecting, we won’t have to wait that much longer.

Mark your calendars, because it’s been confirmed that The Good Doctor season 7 will premiere on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024. New episodes will air at 10:00 p.m. on ABC. I know, it’s not as soon as we’d hoped, but we’re just relieved we won’t be waiting until next fall for the new season. While we wait, let’s break down everything we know about season 7 so far.

It was certainly not surprising to see ABC renew the medical drama for a seventh season. The Good Doctor has been popular with viewers from the start, and it remained strong in its Monday night timeslot. Fans can expect the series to move to Tuesdays in 2024, though. Some changes are coming in the new season. We also have questions regarding a couple of actors in the series.

What to expect from The Good Doctor season 7

One of the biggest things that happened in season 6 was Dr. Glassman realizing that he’d had a series of strokes, which had affected his memory. He was called out on that in the OR, and he isn’t happy that Shaun did that to him. Can their relationship be mended in season 7? What is next for Glassman? We’re expecting these questions to be answered in the new installment.

Reznick stopped her IVF treatments. She found another way to become a mom by adopting baby Eden. This wasn’t surprising when Eden’s mom died. It just seemed like the perfect storyline. Dr. Park ended up going over to see Reznick the first night and immediately jumped in to help her. Is there hope for the two of them to get back together?

So far, we have one confirmed exit this season. Brandon Larracuente, who plays Dr. Danny Perez, will not return to the series. This was a creative decision ahead of the writers’ and actors’ strikes, as it seems like the writers have done what they can with the character.

This doesn’t mean we’ll never see Danny again. We have seen characters leave and return in the past. In fact, one of those was Chuku Mody as Dr. Jared Kalu. He returned for a short stint in season 6. It’s not confirmed if he will come back for season 7 yet.

Hill Harper returning as Dr. Marcus Andrews is also in question. This is more due to Harper potentially running for Senate as it would be a struggle to switch his time between his state and Vancouver for filming. Again, nothing has been confirmed yet.

  • Noah Galvin as Dr. Asher Wolke
  • Bria Henderson as Dr. Jordan Allen

The new season was delayed because of the strikes

Unfortunately, The Good Doctor did not return to ABC this fall and we knew before we got the premiere date that season 7 had been delayed to 2024. The delayed return for the show is due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes which did not allow for production on the seventh season to begin. ABC did intend on bringing the show back in the fall but was forced to pivot to a strike-proof schedule during the summer when it became apparent that scripted series would not be able to begin production in time to return in September or October as is usually the case for fall series.

In case you aren’t caught up, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike in May after not being able to come to an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). This meant that writers’ rooms for shows under contract with the AMPTP could not work, which set back work on a long list of shows and movies. Then, in July, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) went on strike against the AMPTP as well after facing a similar situation. Under the actors’ strike, actors in SAG could not film projects with the AMPTP.

Fortunately, the writers’ strike came to a close in September, but the actors’ strike didn’t end until November. Now that both strikes are over, shows and movies are free to begin production, including ABC titles like The Good Doctor. This is how season 7 finally has a premiere date.

Fingers crossed now that we have a premiere date, we’ll start getting more details regarding the plot of season 7, as well as a trailer or behind-the-scenes sneak peeks. We’ll keep you updated with any information we get!
