It’s certainly bittersweet that Young Sheldon is coming to an end, and season 7 is going to be the final season of The Big Bang Theory prequel/spin-off. Young Sheldon season 7 premieres Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, and the finale is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2024. I can’t believe it’s almost time to say goodbye!

There’s been lots of ups and downs for the Cooper family, and it’s certainly been great to get some more insight into how the intellectual genius grew up. Of course the show itself is a whole backstory. But it’s also provided the opportunity for TBBT fans to learn a bit more about Sheldon’s future with Amy.

One way of doing that was with Jim Parsons, who plays adult Sheldon in TBBT, narrating the entire series. Plus, there’s been times where a few of his fellow co-stars made voice cameos throughout the years. Those are:

  • Kaley Cuoco (as bacteria in a dream, not Penny)
  • Mayim Bialik as Amy
  • Simon Helberg as Howard

We’ll go into more detail about their vocal appearances below. But first, we need to talk about the co-stars who haven’t lent their voices (hopefully yet) to give us a peek at the future. From the main cast members of Big Bang, the following actors have not appeared on Young Sheldon in a voice cameo that we need before Young Sheldon season 7 ends:

  • Johnny Galecki as Leonard
  • Kaley Cuoco as Penny
  • Bonus: Kunal Nayyar as Raj
  • Bonus: Melissa Rauch as Bernadette

Leonard and Penny

Alright, let me explain. In my opinion, the show has to bring on Johnny Galecki, aka Sheldon’s bestie and roommate for years Leonard Hofstadter, before Young Sheldon season 7 ends. Over the years, it was made clear that even though Sheldon got on his friend’s nerves time and time again, the two are still best friends and care about each other deeply. Leonard has always been there for Sheldon, and with his emotional growth, Sheldon eventually realizes it. It would be a huge disappointment if we didn’t get Leonard to do a voice over before the series comes to an end.

Next would be Penny. While Cuoco did provide a voice cameo as bacteria in a pool a young Sheldon dreams about, she didn’t come on as Penny. Both the aspiring actress and Sheldon slowly grew into having a special relationship and friendship. And it was seen time and time again how sometimes only Penny could convince Sheldon to do something. Plus, in a sort of hilarious way, it’s like Penny and Leonard were his parents before Sheldon finally moved out to live with Amy. Other than Leonard and Amy, Penny is one of the first people to be there for him and who Sheldon counts on.

Raj and Bernadette

Now if it were up to me, I’d have all of the main cast members provide voice cameos before we get the conclusion of this chapter of Sheldon’s story. However, I do know that sometimes it doesn’t work out story wise, or there’s scheduling conflicts. While not a must for me personally, it would still be nice to hear from Raj and Bernadette on Young Sheldon.

In the later seasons of TBBT, the group of friends sort of becomes divided plot wise. Usually Amy and Sheldon’s story is paired with Penny and Leonard’s. Then Howard and Bernadette’s is paired with Raj (and sometimes Stewart). Sheldon and Bernadette don’t really have a one-on-one friendship, but she’s still part of the group and could be a fun voice cameo. And while Raj’s bestie is definitely Howard, the guys would all still hang out and work together. He’s one of Sheldon’s closest friends. These two would be wonderful voice cameos to have!

Voice cameos we’ve already seen on Young Sheldon

The very first voice cameo we got was Kaley Cuoco, as mentioned above. It was in season 3 episode 10, “Teenager Soup and a Little Ball of Fib,” Sheldon is having a nightmare as he doesn’t want to get into a swimming pool for gym class. The bacteria-infested pool starts to “speak” to him, and it was Cuoco’s voice.

Season 4 episode 1, “Graduation” marked the first time Mayim Bialik reprised her role as Amy in voice form. Parsons says that his own high school graduation had been “the best graduation party” he’d been to, “until we had one for my son, Leonard Cooper.” He continues, “I wanted his name to be Leonard Nimoy Cooper, but Amy wouldn’t let me.” Then Amy says: “Be lucky I let you name him Leonard.”

That’s right, it’s revealed that the couple names their son Leonard! And that’s another reason why I think it’s so important for Galecki to reprise his role and lend his voice in the final season. This actually wasn’t the first time we learn that Amy and Sheldon had kids. In the season 1 finale, adult Sheldon’s narration reveals that he would “go on to draw up such contracts throughout my life, with roommates, with my wife… even with my own children.” Aw!

The second time we hear from Amy is in season 5, episode 16, “A Suitcase Full of Cash and a Yellow Clown Car.” The two go back and forth talking about relationships. And as usual, Amy is right when she says their money should be saved for their kids’ college fund instead of comic books.

Finally, Howard paid a visit in an episode that focused on engineering. We get the backstory of why Sheldon despises it. That was in season 5 episode 7, “An Introduction to Engineering and a Glob of Hair Gel.” It was a fun way to bring him on, and Howard himself also discovers why Sheldon always made fun of his career.

And as an extra fun easter egg that pulled on our heartstrings, the Young Sheldon season 2 finale didn’t have voice cameos, but the final minutes panned to all of Sheldon’s friends in the future but as younger versions of themselves. Little Leonard, Penny, Howard, Bernadette, Raj, and Amy are all in the mini-montage. And that was just the best!
