On Wednesday, Nov. 22’s episode of The Young and the Restless, Mamie Johnson (Veronica Redd) gathered with her family to celebrate Thanksgiving. She was pressed by Devon Hamilton Winters (Bryton James) and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) to reveal Tucker McCall’s (Trevor St. John) plan. She responded by telling them that he did not want to take control of Chancellor-Winters.

Tucker allied with Mamie and invested money in her company. He, like Mamie, does not believe Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) should have gained control of Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) portion of the company. Devoted viewers recall Katherine leaving Chancellor Industries to Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), whom the Grande Dame initially brought to Genoa City, Wisconsin, to help her run the business in 1980. He later sold it to Jill.

It will be interesting to see how Devon, in particular, responds to the reveal he and Lily decided they needed to hear. James’ character has been unduly hard on his father. While his feelings are somewhat understandable, Devon is honest and should conclude that Tucker’s desire to protect him and his son is genuine. That should change things.

Shining that daytime light should also result in Devon and Lily giving Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic), who was present at the gathering–along with Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) and Abby Newman Abbott (Melissa Ordway)–another chance. Nate realized the errors he made and, with Mamie’s support, sought sincere family reconciliation. He will need to be far humbler in the future but should use a seemingly likely second chance to make amends.

What happened today on The Young and the Restless? (Nov. 22)

Before Abby joined Devon and his family at the penthouse, she helped Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman), who needed to organize a quick Thanksgiving celebration for her family. The Baldwin and Fisher families unexpectedly reunited for a family feast, with Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) and his mother, Gloria Abbott Bardwell (Judith Chapman), Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart), and Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) gathering at Society. When last the audience heard, Michael suddenly left the country to help Gloria, who had a pressing legal problem. That enabled Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) to replace Michael in helping Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), who was in legal jeopardy then.

The fans know that Le Blanc revealed earlier this year that he had cancer. A tumor was pressing on his optic nerve. He was diagnosed in June, began treatment, and is in remission. So, his return to the set represents more than his character’s return. It represents a personal triumph that the audience and his Y&R colleagues can celebrate.

Chapman was last seen last year. She joined the cast in 2005, replacing Joan Van Ark, who portrayed Gloria starting in 2004. Chapman and Rikaart are longtime cast stalwarts. While they have not been seen as much in recent years, with Rikaart also being part of the cast of Days of our Lives, both actors are beloved members of Y&R. So, it is fitting that Gloria and Kevin would be part of The Young and the Restless‘ fiftieth anniversary celebratory year, with details about Chapman’s character’s imprisonment in Singapore and Michael’s legal dexterity earning her freedom representing a classic soap story about a returning character’s off-screen exploits.

Back at the GCAC, Tucker received a text from his estranged wife. After hearing input from Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver), he accepted Ashley Abbott’s (Eileen Davidson) offer to meet for a drink at the Neil Winters’ (Kristoff St. John) Jazz Lounge. While that was happening, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) tried to dissuade Ashley from brokering peace between Tucker and Devon to no avail. Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) also discussed their plan to con Tucker and the implications of Audra being involved. Kyle and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) had a brief back-and-forth about the Chief Operating Officer job before Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) distracted Thompson’s character and then prepared to meet with Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) and Anita Lawson (Catherine Bach).

Ashley met Tucker at the jazz lounge. He was skeptical about her motives and whether Devon would attend the meeting. Meanwhile, back at the Abbott mansion, Jack anticipated Ashley might not return for dinner and offered a toast.
