Here’s what teams are playing NFL games on Thanksgiving Day (and how to watch and listen)
By Sabrina Reed
Happy Thanksgiving! Whether you’re going to be watching the NFL games from the kitchen as you cook up a feast or you’re going to be parked on the couch staying out of the way of the master chefs in your family, we know football is going to be a major part of today’s festivities.
This year we have a triple header to look forward to that’ll take us from the joy of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade into the first match-up of the holiday and well into the night. Here’s the schedule at a glance:
- The Green Bay Packers vs. The Detroit Lions – 12:30 p.m. ET (FOX)
- The Washington Commanders vs. The Dallas Cowboys – 4:30 p.m. ET (CBS)
- The San Francisco 49ers vs. the Seattle Seahawks (NBC)
Packers vs. Lions
- Time: 12:30 p.m. ET
- Stadium: Ford Field
- Channel: FOX
- Streaming: FuboTV, Hulu + Live TV, NFL+, Sunday Ticket on Youtube
- Radio: Packers Radio (local), Lions Radio (local), Sirius Satellite Radio, Westwood One
The Detroit Lions are blazing a trail this season. They’re currently number one in their division, NFC North. The team is “favored to win their first divisional crown since 1993” which makes this match-up with the Green Bay Packers pivotal for their momentum. Their record going into the game is 8-2, and they beat their opponents in their Sept. 28 game that concluded with a score of 34-20. In contrast, the Packers have a 4-6 record and are third in the division. While they aren’t on a three game winning streak like their opponents, I wouldn’t count them out. They’re going in the underdogs with something to prove, they could turn out to be hungrier for the win than the Lions.
Commanders vs. Cowboys
- Time: 4:30 p.m. ET
- Stadium: AT&T Stadium
- Channel: CBS
- Streaming: FuboTV, Hulu + Live TV, NFL+, Paramount+, Youtube TV
- Radio: Washington Commanders Radio, Commanders Fútbol Americano, Dallas Cowboys Radio
The last time the Commanders and the Cowboys went up against one another was on Jan. 8, 2023. It was Washington’s last game of the season and also Sam Howell’s first NFL start and professional debut as quarterback. The Commanders won 26-6. This rematch is going to test the mettle of Howell who’s garnered the favor of fans like myself but has struggled under pressure in clutch moments that could have turned the game around for a team victory. He is, however, tenacious with a talent that brims with the promise of a storied career once he becomes more seasoned.
The Commanders are third in the NFC East with a record of 4-7. Compared to the Cowboys record of 7-3 (they’re second in the division), they’re definitely going into this game with the odds against them. But, and yes I realize my fan flag is flying, an upset isn’t out of the realm of possibility. The Commanders are a good team and even when they’ve been down in the half, they’ve come within striking distance of pulling off a late game comeback for the win. The issue is execution.
If they can’t pull ahead of the Cowboys early, or hold them in the first half, the second half of the game could be scary hours. But their opponents shouldn’t go into this match thinking it’s in the bag. When the Commanders’ machine is well-oiled, they’re a force to be reckoned with.
49ers vs. Seahawks
- Time: 8:20 p.m. ET
- Stadium: Lumen Field
- Channel: NBC and Universo
- Streaming: FuboTV, NFL+, Peacock, Sling TV
- Radio: 49ers Radio, Los 49ers, Seahawks Radio
We’re expecting the match between the 49ers and the Seahawks to be a tight one. They’re the top two teams in the NFC West, with San Francisco edging Seattle out by one game. They’re records are 7-3 and 6-4, respectively. Nov. 23’s game is their first face off of the season.
The last time the teams met on the field was on Jan. 24, 2023 in the playoffs. The 49ers won 41-23. Who will come out the victor this go around? With the teams this evenly matched, it’s hard to speculate but if the Seahawks win, they’ll tie with the 49ers as the #1 team in their division, so it’s the 49ers game to lose.
