5. Nigel and Katya – Rumba

At this point, it’s well-documented how difficult the Rumba is for the male celebrities. Not only is the most difficult dance in general, it’s incredibly difficult for a non-dancer to lead a professional dancer around the floor, especially in a dance like that one. Taking that into account, Nigel did a wonderful job.

Having a song as powerful as “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” certainly would have helped with the emotion of the routine, but Nigel is an actor so it goes without saying that the performance aspect of it came to him with ease. You really felt the routine, and the story that he and Katya were telling. And after last week’s little slip, we’re thrilled that he was able to have such a moving, successful performance.

Technically, it could have been a bit more expressive in the upper half and, as the judges pointed out, there could have been a bit more hip action in the lower half to create more of a flow overall, but generally, this was a great performance for Nigel and Katya. We’re happy that their Strictly journey hit another high this week.

Our score: 8
