1. Ellie and Vito – Argentine Tango

There was a chill in the air and an excitement so indescribable as we anticipated Ellie and Vito’s interpretation of the Argentine Tango. This is the dance that creates the most memorable moments on Strictly; could Ellie and Vito add their names to that list?

On paper, “Bills, Bills, Bills” might have sounded like an unusual song choice for the Argentine Tango, but the moment that it started playing, that all changed. Of course, it helps that we have someone as talented as Ellie dancing to it, but not even the knowledge of that could have prepared us for the grandeur of what we were about to witness.

Every stroke of that violin came with beautifully executed kicks and flicks. They were sharp and yet loose at the same time, creating that perfect ferocity that the Argentine Tango is known for. The choreography was complex, with plenty of unique steps that involved Ellie being hoisted around, over and onto Vito, all of which she executed to perfection.

Anton and Craig might have thought it lacked a little intimacy but I have to agree with Shirley and Motsi; this was all about Ellie standing up to Vito, proving that she’s his equal, matching him at every turn and calling him out in the process, just as the song choice would appreciate.

It was precise, fluid, and a work of art. The dance of the night.

Our score: 10
