Where is A Christmas Story streaming in 2023? (And how to watch the 24-hour marathon!)
There’s so many classic holiday movies we love to tune in to every year in December. One month is just not long enough to catch them all! If you’re like me, there’s some films that you prioritize over others. And one of those is definitely A Christmas Story. Where can you stream the Christmas comedy in 2023?
Let’s go back in time to the ’40s when the story takes place and follow the youngster and his adventures towards Christmas Day. Read on below to find out where you can stream the movie now, plus how you can catch the 24-hour marathon on TV!
A Christmas Story is streaming on Max
If you’re wondering how to watch the film online, then look no further! We’re here to help you out and let you know all the possible options you have. And there’s multiple! The main and best way to watch the Christmas comedy in my opinion would be to stream it. A Christmas Story is currently streaming on Max.
Especially if you already have a monthly subscription to the service, this is easy-peasy and the best option for you. Alright, let’s break it all down for you. Below are the Max streaming options and prices:
- With Ads – $9.99/month or $99.99/year
- Ad-Free – $15.99/month or $149.99/year
- Ultimate Ad-Free – $19.99/month or $199.99/year
There’s also multiple platforms to rent or buy the movie including YouTube and Apple TV. Plus, those of you with a cable subscription will want to make sure to mark your calendars down for Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023. That’s when the 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story begins! You can catch it starting at 8 p.m. ET on TBS and 9 p.m. ET on TNT. The full-day cycle will go through Christmas Day, so that will definitely help get you in the holiday spirit. Below, we shared all the ways to stream, rent, buy, and watch A Christmas Story:
- Stream it on: Max, Hulu and Prime Video add-ons
- Rent it on: YouTube, Google Play, Apple TV, Vudu
- Buy it on: YouTube, Google Play, Apple TV, Vudu
- Watch it on: TNT or TBS
The production is available to rent for $3.99 on YouTube, Google Play, and Apple TV, or purchase on either platform for $7.99. If you want to use Vudu, it’s $3.99 to rent or $9.99 to buy.
Hulu has multiple subscription options, which you can find here. So why are we talking about the streamer? That’s because whether you already have Hulu or not, for an additional $15.99/month you can also purchase a Max add-on. This will give you access to Max content through your Hulu account. The same can be done through the Max add-on on Prime Video. That would cost you an additional $9.99/month. Prime Video alone is included in an Amazon Prime membership, or you can just get access to the streamer for $8.99/month.
Finally, if you want to access TNT and TBS, you can do so with a cable package. The two channels are also available through YouTube TV for $72.99/month, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, and DirectTV. Here’s the schedule of when they’re broadcasting the movie throughout December 2023 below:
A Christmas Story on TBS
- Saturday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m ET
- Sunday Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET
- Sunday, Dec. 24 at 8 p.m. ET to Dec. 25 at 8 p.m. ET (24-hour marathon)
A Christmas Story on TNT

A Christmas Story is centered around a young Ralphie Parker who dreams of his “ideal Christmas gift” – a Red Ryder air rifle, per the synopsis. Having to deal with a bully and a “cranky” father, will Ralphie be able to make it to Christmas Day with “his glasses” and hopes intact? Clearly he does as the original film is followed by multiple sequels!
Where to watch the sequels
A Christmas Story has a total of three sequels that came out of the original tale. Those are My Summer Story (released in theaters as It Runs in the Family), A Christmas Story 2, and A Christmas Story Christmas.
The first sequel is available to purchase through Amazon in Blu-Ray, DVD, or even VHS form. A Christmas Story 2 is also streaming on Max, while the third sequel that just came out in 2022 is on Max as well. A Christmas Story Christmas will be broadcast on TNT and TBS throughout the festive season too. Find the schedule below:
A Christmas Story Christmas on TBS
- Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10 p.m. ET
- Sunday, Dec. 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET
A Christmas Story Christmas on TNT
- Sunday, Dec. 17 at 7:33 p.m. ET
- Monday, Dec. 25 at 9 p.m. ET
I love it when if not all, at least most of the movies in a franchise are all streaming in one place. It just makes watching everything so much easier. That’s why, again, if you don’t have a Max account, my recommendation is to subscribe to the streamer as that will be the most cost-effective and easiest way to watch three of the movies in the franchise!
