Law and Order: SVU fans have more than one thing to celebrate come January. Not only is season 25 premiering on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 9 p.m. ET but also Kelli Giddish is returning for the debut! TVLine reports that actress is walking back into the precinct as Det. Amanda Rollins.
Plot details for the season opener aren’t known yet, but we do know SVU started filming on Monday, Nov. 27 as expected. Star Mariska Hargitay posted a celebratory video to her Instagram of her and Giddish dancing to “Lil Boo Thang” by Paul Russell, captioning the reel–“Back with my lil boo thang.”
The last time Giddish was on the show, Rollins had been called in by Stabler to consult on a case. It was a welcome break from academia for the former detective. She’d been enjoying her students at Fordham University, shaping young minds as she taught criminal behavior, but it’s not the same thing as working through a mystery unfolding right before your eyes. Likely, Rollins will be consulting on another case in the premiere.
It’s unknown if Giddish will be returning for more episodes of Law and Order: SVU in season 25. The series is expected to have 13 episodes for its 25th outing. This was an anticipated episode count as most TV shows debuting in the midseason will have 10-13 episodes to compensate for the delay caused by the Hollywood strikes.
Hopefully, we’ll see Rollins for more than one episode in this upcoming season. We’ll keep you posted as more news comes in about the Law and Order franchise. So far there have been no cast shake-ups for SVU but the flagship has seen both an exit and an addition. Click through to the next page for more information.
