A new month brings new movies to both theaters and our favorite streaming platforms. Of course, not every month is fruitful, but December has plenty to give — and it’s not just Wonka

Which movie is the one you have been waiting to watch all year? Chances are, the answer is Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka, the chocolate expert. The movie is based on the character of the same name from Roald Dahl’s books of the same name. The first reactions, gathered by Deadline, have been extremely positive, all praising Chalamet’s performance as Wonka.

If Wonka is not your answer for the movie you’ve been anticipating this year, it could be DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Though it doesn’t come with as much buzz as the first Jason Momoa picture, there are still fans who are very excited to watch. But Wonka and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are still not the only must-see movies this month.

6 must-see movies coming this month (December 23)

In order of release date, here are the top six movies we recommend you don’t skip this month (as well as where to watch).

  • Godzilla Minus One, now playing in theaters
  • Teddy’s Christmas, now playing in select theaters
  • Leave the World Behind, now in select theaters, coming to Netflix Dec. 8
  • Wonka, in theaters Dec. 15
  • Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, in theaters Dec. 22
  • Poor Things, in theaters Dec. 22

That’s right, folks. It looks like to catch the biggest features of the month you’ll need to head to your local movie theater. From the above, the only movie headed to streaming is Leave the World Behind, which premieres on Netflix on Dec. 8. However, it is now playing in select theaters. The children’s film Teddy’s Christmas is also now playing in limited theaters, as soon as we know where to find it on streaming (here in a few weeks) we’ll update this post. Happy watching!
