High Potential follows Morgan Gillory, a single mom with a high IQ who becomes a consultant for the LAPD. Her methods may be unconventional, but Morgan is a valuable asset to the police department, helping them solve crimes and capture LA's most dangerous criminals.
Over the past two years, High Potential has added a handful of new characters. This includes Mekhi Phifer as Arthur Ellis, Steve Howey as Captain Nick Wagner, Susan Kelechi Watson as Lucia, and more. But while many of these characters played an important role in the show's first two seasons, it's unlikely all of them will return for season 3.

3. Tom
Season 1 saw Morgan explore potential love connections outside of her flirty dynamic with Karadec. One of those love connections came in the form of the homicide unit's resident janitor, Tom (JD Pardo).
Morgan and Tom enjoyed fun, flirty banter for a while before going on an official date in season 1, episode 8, titled "Obsessed." Things were going well until a hostage crisis and other responsibilities prevented the two from taking things to the next level. Since then, Morgan has explored other connections, making it unlikely that we will see more of Tom in season 3.

2. Lucia
Season 2 of High Potential introduced audiences to a figure from Karadec's past: his ex-fiancee Lucia.
Season 1 revealed that the two parted ways because Lucia felt Karadec was married to his job. They later reconciled in season 2 after realizing that their feelings for each other hadn't gone away. But this didn't last long, as Lucia's involvement in one of Karadec's cases led to the character being written off.
Lucia's departure was inevitable, as the writers of High Potential have been gearing up for a Karadec/Morgan romance for a while. Season 2 made this more apparent, as the two partners shared close moments that reaffirmed their growing feelings for each other. Therefore, it's unlikely we will see any more of Lucia in season 3.

1. Nick Wagner
The last time we saw Nick Wagner, he was bleeding out in a parking lot after being attacked in High Potential's season 2 finale. Since his arc was left on a cliffhanger, it's unclear what Wagner's fate will be.
It's possible Howey could return in season 3 to wrap up his storyline as Wagner; however, nothing has been confirmed yet. However, if he does return, it would need to make sense from a plot perspective. As mentioned above, it's clear the writers of High Potential are pursuing a romance between Morgan and Karadec. This effectively ended whatever Wagner had with the genius consultant, isolating him further from the rest of the team.
Further, after leaving High Potential, Howey secured a new role on Netflix's Ransom Canyon, making it that much harder for the actor to return for season 3.
Season 3 of High Potential premieres in 2027 on ABC.
