The 911 season 9 finale was full of tension, fear, and questions as the 118 waited in the hospital for news after Angela Bassett’s Athena Grant was shot while serving a warrant. There were so many amazing moments in the episode that highlighted the importance of the 118’s bond and how their actions impacted their future decisions. Here are some of our top best moments from the episode.

Athena had been working with Detective Hooks to do a search warrant on a home belonging to Nikolay Caster. But it turned out Hooks was dirty and had shot him before turning the gun on Athena. However, he made Nikolay’s son, Anatoly, think that Athena shot him instead.

In the episode, various team members ended up separated, which allowed them to help in different ways. While Ravi Panikkar joined his girlfriend, May, to go see her mom, Harry and Buck went to get some air on the roof, while Eddie went off to pray for Athena’s recovery. This left Hen and Chimney to be present in the waiting room when danger arrived.

Chimney and Hen working together

Now that Chimney Han is captain, he doesn’t get to take part in the action as much. But with his other firefighters in various parts of the hospital, he is with Hen when a man in the waiting area is shot. The man had been asking a nurse for an update on his little girl, who was in surgery, when a gunman, Anatoly, trying to threaten her, shot him.

As Anatoly managed to get into the ICU, Chimney and Hen got the victim to safety, where they worked together to save him. This was an incredible moment between the pair that fans have been missing since they haven’t worked directly as partners in a while. Plus, it also was a nice throwback to show how Hen’s medical knowledge from her time studying to be a doctor helped in this scenario.

Eddie is trying to stay alive in the elevator

Anatoly overheard Eddie talking about the person who shot Athena and decided to attack him when he was alone and most vulnerable. He was stabbed in the side and struggled to get into the elevator, trying to get help. Unfortunately, this happened right as the hospital went into lockdown, and he was trapped in the elevator throughout the episode. This definitely heightened the worry for many fans, who waited for someone to notice he was missing.

Luckily, he was rescued in the end, but it was one of those hair-raising moments where the show really kicked in the fear that anything could happen to our favorite firefighters at some point.

Buck and Harry work together thanks to Maddie

The decision to go to the vending machines allowed Buck and Harry to be heroic in their own way. They had been on the roof when the lockdown occurred, and by the time they came back, they couldn’t use the elevator to get back to everyone. Maddie spoke with Buck, relieved he wasn’t hurt before telling him what happened. They needed to get to the ICU to protect Athena, but to do that, they needed to override the lockdown.

Josh also managed to help them get down to the basement level of the hospital to turn off the power long enough for them to get to the right floor they needed. Just in time too, as Harry managed to tackle Anatoly before he could get to Athena as Buck led SWAT to the suspect.

Harry was absolutely incredible, dealing with his emotions over his mom being hurt and being able to fight back when she needed him. He has really come into his own as a firefighter and managed to save the day.

May and Ravi at Athena’s bedside

When May found out her mom was in a medically induced coma to help her recover, she asked to go see her, along with Ravi. He was there for moral support but also became a huge help in protecting Athena from Anatoly. They managed to move Athena to a different area in the ICU before Anatoly could find them.

They have become such a cute couple, and to see them working together was so fun to watch. Ravi even put himself in danger when Anatoly discovered them, and he put himself against the door to keep him from entering before Harry arrived. We’ve really come to love watching these two in action and are excited to see them further along in season 10.

Buck’s big decision regarding Theo

Even though the episode didn’t touch too much on Theo and how he was doing after losing his parents, it was clear through the episode that Buck was thinking about him. Harry briefly mentioned to Buck that he was sorry about his friends, who had only just passed away in a car accident when the events of this episode took place. Theo had been taken in for emergency placement, but Buck was already planning to check on him.

Another incident that made Buck think of Theo was watching Eddie with Chris when the latter came to see his dad once he was recovering from his stab wound. Eddie’s aunt mentioned how no one could get between Eddie and Chris’s bond, and Buck looked pensive, likely thinking of Theo and his connection to him. Eventually, a comment from Harry about kids again brought the topic of Theo up in Buck’s mind, making him decide to foster the boy.

Now, of course, there are some complicated feelings about this arc, especially since Buck is still recovering from an addiction. Plus, wouldn’t Connor and Kameron have had other family to take him in? No matter what, though, Buck is stepping up to help Theo, and that is just who he is as a person despite the biological relation. How this storyline plays out is something we’ll have to see when the show returns in the fall of 2026 with season 10.
