5 moments from The Rookie season 8 that made us fall in love with the show again

The Rookie season 8 may have tested our nerves but it also renewed our love for the show, too.

The Rookie season 8 delivered many favorite moments including standout moments for specific characters and impactful scenes fans loved.

I’ve narrowed it down to five of my favorite storylines that made me fall in love with the show as if I were a new fan. Although I’ve been watching since it came out in 2018, season 8 felt like a new chapter for the show. In a way, it did start new chapters for our characters.

Monica and Wesley’s goodbye scene broke me

Monica may have been enemy No. 1 for years, but at one time, she was everything to him. Even though she was trying to escape punishment/pain, The Rookie gave her a heartfelt goodbye. Maybe Wesley was one of the only ones who saw the real her. In those final moments, she wanted to be her: No wing, no lies, just them as they were.

When her final scene happened, and Wesley grabbed Angela’s hand, it broke me even more. Despite Monica being the LAPD’s enemy, she also worked closely with them. They all knew her. I’m glad they were all there and understanding of Wesley’s mixed emotions.

Bailey and Nolan teaming up

I love that Bailey returned home and to work, but did they have to scare us on her first call back? What a dramatic way to jump back in. How was she supposed to know what would happen when she called Nolan to help train her rookie? She walked them both into danger. This also allowed us to see their teamwork again (like on their honeymoon!). I love a good Bailey and Nolan moment.

Lucy and Harper go undercover

In episode 7, Lucy and Harper go undercover as artistic van-lifer girlfriends. Two women were recruited to sell drugs and were later murdered. This assignment is a full-circle moment for Lucy and Harper’s professional friendship arc. Not only have they gone undercover before, but Lucy was a real part of the van-lifer lifestyle before she decided to be a police officer.

Despite fake dating, Lucy shared real details about her life before Officer Chen. She was just a girl trying to find herself. So, this undercover assignment made me fall in love with storytelling all over again. Not only are we seeing Harper and Lucy work together, but we’re learning more about them. They are fearless but are also just women learning about what they want out of life. It is a beautiful episode.

Miles’ compassion

As much as I hate Miles almost getting kicked off the force, I loved seeing his compassion through the storyline. Yes, we don’t like Seth very much after what he did to Lucy. But despite all his lying, Miles stayed friends with Seth. After all they went through to become rookies, they learned to have each other’s backs. So when Seth needed help, Miles was there. When Miles needed a stakeout partner, Seth was at his side.

It ended badly for Miles, but he handled his punishment with as much grace as could be expected. Honestly, I’m glad we didn’t have to say goodbye to Miles because I would have thrown a fit if they booted him off. Also, there’s room for twists and turns in someone’s career. His twist was unexpected, as it was meant to be. For all the characters who have come and gone, I hope Miles stays for a long time. His southern twang is very loved by this southern fan.

Lucy’s ring

I couldn’t have loved the ring-picking scenes any more. I loved that Tim wanted to know the story behind the rings he was looking at. The one he chose had the sweetest story. Seeing his eyes light up when he heard the story and instantly knew Lucy would love it was magical. It was everything their love story deserved and more. But it wouldn’t be The Rookie without someone ruining a special moment.

Not to mention a special moment the fans have waited forever for (even having to suffer a breakup along the way). After everything Tim did to make the proposal magical, the criminals ruined it. Again, it wouldn’t be the show we know and love if a special occasion didn’t get ruined. We all remember Angela and Wesley’s special occasions that got ruined by criminals. It was bound to happen, but gosh, that was a cruel moment to ruin, especially at the end of a season.

The Rookie is streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
