911: Lone Star brought a bittersweet reunion with a devastating meaning

As we come to a close on 911: Lone Star, we're starting to find out the fates of people. Tommy's fate isn't as optimistic as we'd hoped, but it did mean a surprise reunion.

911: Lone Star delivered a bittersweet moment in the penultimate episode. It’s all about Tommy’s story as the series comes to a close.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from 911: Lone Star season 5, episode 11

For the entire season, we’ve seen Tommy face her battle with breast cancer. She managed to fight for a treatment that was pretty much guaranteed to work. Only, it turns out that nothing is guaranteed in the fight against cancer.

During the recent episode, she found out that the tumors had grown. One was so close to the heart that it couldn’t be operated on, and it could burst at any moment. With her daughters visiting their uncle for a week, Tommy’s doctor encouraged her to ask them to come home early. She has just days.

In the end, Tommy decided not to tell them. They were having a lot of fun and getting ready for a huge concert at the end of the week. Tommy didn’t want to ruin their fun and great experiences, so she let them hang up and remained in her solace.

That’s when she started crying and had a coughing fit. As she heard a familiar voice, she knew what it likely meant. Charles stood in the kitchen offering to cook her steak and eggs, and we all knew that this was a sign of something devastating to come.

Do we need to get our tissues ready? While Gina Torres hasn’t confirmed if Tommy has died or not, I think it’s going to be one hell of an emotional rollercoaster in the series finale.

What does Charles being there mean for Tommy?

It’s hard to say whether Charles is there in a dream or because Tommy is dying. Personally, I think it’s a sign that she is accepting her fight against cancer is a losing one. It’s like she’s accepted that she is going to die, and she feels like Charles is waiting for her on the other side.

Tommy is worried about who will care for her girls once she is gone. In this scene, she had a chance to ask Charles whether his brother, Julius, was ready to take on the role of guardian. Before this, she would have likely turned to Grace and Judd for that, but Grace has been away and Judd has his own issues. Charlie has been with grandparents for the last month.

The conversation was more like Tommy trying to settle her mind, feeling like Julius is ready to step up as guardian. She can see that her girls will have a good life with him. Discussing it with Charles is her way of accepting this fate.

We will see Tommy in the series finale, according to TVLine, but there’s no word on how. The last we saw her, it looked like she was asleep on the couch. Nobody checked on her during the episode, but they did have an asteroid to deal with. One thing it does suggest, though, is that the asteroid doesn’t kill everyone in the state, but I’m getting prepared for a devastating moment when it comes to Tommy in the 911: Lone Star series finale.

911: Lone Star series finale airs on Monday, Feb. 3 at 8/7c on FOX.
