911 season 10, episode 4 continued the storyline involving Buck and his newfound parenting, but is it stopping anytime soon? Plus, Athena looked into a man who seemed to identify himself as a doctor at the scene of an accident, but what was really going on? There was so much happening, so let’s go over what happened.
Buck has been doing his best to take care of Theo, but things haven’t been going well. Theo is usually getting into trouble and anytime Buck tries to take care of things, he usually shies away from him. He has been trying to handle things on his own, especially after getting into a fight with his friend, Eddie Diaz.

Buck has some decisions to make but needs support more than anything
Things only get worse for Buck when he is at the park with Theo, and to avoid going home with him, Theo calls him a kidnapper. When other parents call the police, Theo still doesn’t help by saying Buck is not his dad, and Buck isn’t clear enough about who he is to Theo.
Luckily, Deidre, our favorite social worker, comes to Buck’s aid. Buck is feeling like a fraud, like he can’t take care of Theo the way he needs to. Deidre gives him some good advice and shares her own parenting experience before reminding Buck that he is still new to the world of fostering.
Buck realizes what is really going on with Theo when he tries to play with him while he is crashing cars. He brings out a firetruck, and it causes Theo to get upset. Buck realizes that Theo is associating him with the day of the accident that killed his parents. He remembers Buck taking him away from them.
While it may not necessarily mean Theo wants nothing to do with him, and he may just be lashing out emotionally because he is so young and doesn’t understand, Buck feels like he can’t truly take care of Theo the way he needs. He goes to Eddie to talk things out before telling him that he doesn’t think he can be Theo’s dad.
The fight between Buck and Eddie didn’t last long. With these two, they usually do brush things off once they make up. We did get to see a look of surprise on Eddie’s face when Buck said this about himself. While Eddie had his concerns about Buck’s parenting and came at things the wrong way, he didn’t have the full picture of what Buck was dealing with.
Now that Eddie knows how Buck is feeling, hopefully he will be able to give Buck the support that Buck needed in the first place. After all, Buck made it a point to remind Eddie of how many times he was there for him. Now it’s time for Eddie to be the friend Buck needs and make sure he knows that he can be someone Theo needs.
Buck may feel like giving up right now, but knowing him, once he gets support and sees he is capable, he will fight for Theo the way he needs. It doesn’t seem like this storyline is ending, and I hope it gives Buck the growth and confidence he needs to go through this new journey in his life.

Maddie, Athena, and May all have a role to play in a case
The rest of the episode focused on the aftermath of a multi-vehicle collision. A man posing as a doctor had come to help people, but he did everything incorrectly. Athena and her partner were assigned to the case, and at first, they wondered if it was done purposefully. Once they identified him as a man named Jeffrey Thomas, they learned he was not a doctor but came from a family of doctors.
There was speculation that he probably wanted to be like his family. However, when Athena talked to Hen about the case and mentioned he had been sober for 14 months, Hen wondered if something neurological was wrong with Jeffrey. It could explain why he posed as a doctor but was trying to help people, not maliciously hurt them.
Eventually, they figured out his father worked at a local hospital, which was where May was during her student training. Jeffrey was posing as a doctor and believed a patient needed surgery. He called on May to help him, but once she figured out something was wrong, she managed to stop him.
Once Jeffrey was given medication and reunited with his wife, he felt awful for what happened. He made sure Athena let the nurse who helped him know he was thankful. Athena looked very proud at the moment, knowing her daughter was the one who made sure things didn’t get worse.
Maddie was also connected to the case since she was the dispatcher who took the call when Jeffrey was at the scene. She didn’t realize he wasn’t an actual doctor, and it made her doubt herself. After Chimney helped to try to make her feel better, Maddie went back to work and tried to trust her instincts. When she got a call from someone who couldn’t answer, she was able to figure out that there was possible carbon monoxide poisoning and got help to her.
The responding captain let Maddie know she was correct, and they got to the victim in time. The woman even came and thanked Maddie for saving her life. Having come back to her job at the phones after being a manager for a short time, Maddie needed to find her footing again, and she did. Although, we would still love to see her as a manager one day once she realizes she is fully capable of taking that step.
All in all, this was a good episode and showed how things are moving forward for some of the characters, although it looks like Buck will have the reins for a bit. But we’re excited to see how the season shapes up for the rest of the characters.
911 airs on ABC on Thursdays at 8/7c.
