One thing we know in the world of 911 is that it’s highly unlikely a main character will die. However, that doesn’t stop the fear that the flagship series is about to kill off its main character, Bobby Nash.
For eight seasons, Bobby has been the father figure of the 118. He has become the glue that’s kept everyone together, offer some sound advice in times of need and crisis. He’s also put his life on the line more time than we can count, which makes the idea of the show killing him off surprising.
Why did the 911 season 8 death rumors start?
The rumors of Bobby’s death started over the weekend. A video of a funeral procession started doing the rounds, and I’m sure you’ve seen it all over social media. Various members of the 118 are there behind one 911 character in particular, Athena Grant. Athena isn’t in her dress uniform. Instead, she’s in black funeral clothing, with both of her children by her side, with May carrying a hat.
Just with the lineup, it was clear that this had to be the funeral of Bobby Nash. Then an X user by the username of @stllakidd shared a photo of Bobby’s coat on the back of a fire truck, showing that it was leading the way in a funeral procession. That would certainly confirm Bobby is supposed to be in the casket.
Is this just a dream or a fear of someone’s in 911?
It seems unlikely that the series would kill Bobby off at this point. This is a character who has already been in some extremely dangerous situations, and not just for work. There was the time when it looked like he might have radiation poisoning when sacrificing his own safety for others during a truck with a leak, then there was the big fire at the end of season 7 that almost claimed the lives of both him and Athena.
We also can’t forget the cruise ship when both he and Athena were trapped in a room filling up with water! So, it’s hard to believe that if Ryan Murphy hasn’t already killed off Bobby in these situations that he would do it now.
Sure, a character death at this point would remind us of the dangers of firefighting, but 911 isn’t the same type of show as Chicago Fire, which has killed off main characters in the past. 911 is far more soapy with a dash of being unrealistic, so the idea of characters surviving these absurd situations is more acceptable.
It would suggest that this funeral procession is just a dream, and possibly one of Athena’s. Maybe something does happen to Bobby that has her fearing the worse. The fact that Eddie isn't wearing his firefighting uniform and is in normal funeral attire makes me think that it could be Buck or Bobby himself having the dream, though. Athena would have put Eddie in the same uniform as the others, despite his move to Texas.
911 season 8 airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
