911 season 8 won't return with new episodes tonight (Jan. 23, 2025)

Not all networks have brought back their top shows. ABC is one of them. When will 911 season 8 return with new episodes?

The wait for 911 season 8 continues. There isn’t a new episode of the series on ABC tonight, Thursday, Jan. 23.

We would love to see the series return this month, but there is some terrible news. The wait for 911 and the rest of TGIT to come off its winter break is much longer than other shows. On the other side, this is going to be a good thing. It doesn’t feel like it right now, though.

What’s on ABC tonight?

ABC won’t even air a rerun of 911 season 8 tonight, Thursday, Jan. 23. Instead, we’re getting a new episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This has become the Thursday night lineup for this month, and it will continue for a little bit longer.

With ABC having a Thursday night lineup for the winter, it does mean that there isn’t room for reruns of our favorite TGIT dramas. If you want to watch older episodes of 911, you’ll want to turn your attention to Hulu. That’s where all episodes so far are streaming.

When will 911 season 8 return with new episodes?

How long is the break? As ABC warned us, this is a long one. We’ll get new episodes on Thursday, March 6.

This is actually a little earlier than we’ve seen 911 return from its winter break in the past. In some years, we’ve seen it return in the spring instead of late winter. So, at least there’s some good news.

The delay is a blessing in disguise. As much as we hate the wait now, it means that we’ll get new episodes until May. There may be one week off, but the rest of the schedule will be consistent, which can’t be said for many other shows across other networks. The earlier a show comes back, the more breaks are needed to make sure finales air in May!

Another blessing is due to the devastation in Los Angeles right now. Filming on various shows has had to be postponed due to the wildfires. Filming has moved inside due to air quality, which is likely to mean fewer big storylines on the streets of LA, but production has been able to start back up.

There are a lot of questions about how things could play out in 911. The last we left Eddie, he had to decide whether staying in LA was worth it or whether he needed to move back to Texas to be with his son, Christopher. It’s possible that the 118 will be a firefighter down when the series returns.

911 returns on Thursday, March 6 at 8/7c on ABC.
