It's going to be a big year for the teachers and students at Abbott Elementary. Not only will a certain pair possibly be taking the next step in their relationship, but the Emmy Award-winning ABC comedy series will also be ringing in one of the biggest milestones a television series can achieve. These days, it's become a rarity for TV shows to reach 100 episodes, but Abbott's made it to 100!
ABC announced the premiere dates for its fall 2026 lineup, including the dates for the highly anticipated returns for its biggest drama series like Grey's Anatomy, 911, 911: Nashville, and RJ Decker. Beyond the exciting dramas and reality shows filling the network's schedule, Scrubs and Abbott Elementary are also back to hold down Wednesday nights with laughs.
Abbott Elementary season 6 features the 100th episode
Following a two-hour premiere for Scrubs season 2 on Wednesday, Sept. 30, Abbott Elementary slides into the post-Scrubs timeslot on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8:30/7:30c with the season 6 premiere. Unlike its timeslot predecessor, Abbott will begin its new season with only one new episode. But a few weeks into the season, the series will celebrate 100 episodes with what's sure to be a special event.

The 100th episode of Abbott Elementary will be season 6 episode 7, but because the season hasn't even premiered yet, we don't know what the episode is called or what will happen. It's even difficult to predict exactly when the episode will air in the fall. Based on when season 5 aired its seventh episode, we could possibly expect the 100th episode to air sometime in December 2026.
There's no doubt that ABC will roll out the red carpet for the occasion and make it the big deal that it is. Because, again, in the age of streaming series with episode counts often capped at 10 or fewer episodes, it's not often that a series makes it to 100 episodes or even season 6. While Abbott Elementary could be nearing its ending, there's still plenty of seasons before the final goodbye.
What to expect from Abbott Elementary season 6
When we left our favorite group of teachers in the season 5 finale, they were gathered together for the school district's conference in Miami, which allowed them a nice reprieve from a chaotic school year that included a brief relocation to an abandoned mall. Upon learning the district planned to shut down 20 schools, Abbott included, Janine saved the day, but they're now getting more students.
Gregory also became the new assistant principal of Abbott Elementary, which will have him working closely with Ava. He also revealed his intention to propose to Janine, but we could still be a way off from him finally getting the courage to pop the question. There's going to be some build up, planning, and unavoidable complications as his fellow teachers found out what he's planning.
However, the fact that Gregory wants to propose to Janine could possibly give us a hint of what to expect in the 100th episode. Could that be when he finally asks her to marry him? That would be something very special to mark the show's biggest milestone, especially since fans will have been waiting 100 episodes for the couple to take this step. (Jim and Pam did it in 73 episodes.)
Abbott Elementary season 6 holds a lot of potential and possibility for moving the characters' lives forward in big ways, and it all starts on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8:30/7:30c on ABC. The series is also available to stream on Hulu, and Hulu on Disney+, the day after airing.
