As the Chicago Med season 10 fall finale closed, it looked like we would see Dr. Dean Archer leave the hospital. He slipped his resignation letter under the door, which was just what Sharon Goodwin needed to escape her attacker.
Well, the Chicago Med season 10 winter premiere saw Archer act quickly to save Goodwin’s life. As much as Goodwin’s daughter didn’t want the Whipple, he decided to do it. That wouldn’t come back to hurt him, either, as Goodwin was happy that Archer made sure she was patched up as much as possible. He made sure she had the quality of life she wanted.
There was one request from her at the end of the episode. He needed to rethink his decision to resign.
Archer isn’t going anywhere in Chicago Med
That’s exactly what he did. While working on Goodwin, Archer realized just how much good he could still do in the hospital. Working under Dr. Lennox will be difficult, but it will be worth it.
And so, he’s decided to stick around. We’ll get to see him in the new episode tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 15. The synopsis tells us that he will need to treat a tyrannical boss with a heart problem. This is sure to mean surgery, and this boss is surely going to treat the hospital staff the way he does his own members of staff.
However, it could be a good chance for Archer to see that while Lennox is a headache, she’s not all that bad. Archer just needs to figure out the best way to work in the hospital. Sticking around is the best for his character, as it means that he’ll have time for growth, whether it’s in the hospital or in his personal life, and he certainly needs to do that.
Him sticking around could also be good for Dr. Lennox. While being confident and assertive is important, Chicago Med has fallen into the stereotype of females in leadership. There’s this brashness that makes us forget that she’s even human, and while there are certainly women in leadership who are like that, it’s time to portray other styles. Maybe with Archer around, we can see her soften up a little.
Chicago Med airs on Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
