There's some exciting news to share for fans who have fallen head over heels for Fox's breakout medical comedy-drama series Best Medicine. The network made an early decision on the show's fate, marking the first drama series secured placement on next season's schedule.
Two weeks before the show's first season finale on March 10, Best Medicine was renewed for season 2 by Fox, the first of the network's scripted hourlong series to score a renewal for the 2026-2027 television season. As of this writing, Fox hasn't announced decisions about its fellow drama series Doc, Memory of a Killer, and Murder in a Small Town returning for additional seasons.
According to Deadline, Best Medicine season 2 will contain 12 episodes, a slightly increased episode count compared to the first season's 10-episode order. That's a great sign of faith in the series that Fox wants to keep it on the air even a little bit longer, but it's not surprising that the show still has a limited "full season" order given that has become something of the norm on the small screen.

Best Medicine season 2 renewed by Fox ahead of season 1 finale
Since its premiere on Jan. 4, Best Medicine has been delivering stable ratings week-to-week, not only on the night of its airings on Fox but also from streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Per Deadline, the series debuted to 12.6 million total multi-platform viewers and has netted Fox's "second-largest seven-day total multi-platform audience." Overall, it's a real hit and people are watching!
Based on the British series Doc Martin, Fox's Best Medicine comes from showrunner Liz Tuccillo and stars Josh Charles as Martin Best, a doctor who leaves his much more glamorous career in Boston to front a private practice in Port Wenn, Maine. The heart surgeon used to vacation in the small fishing town when he was growing up, but returning the quirky village opens up a whole new world.
Beyond Charles in the leading role, Best Medicine also stars Abigail Spencer as Louisa Gavin, Josh Segarra as Mark Mylow, Cree as Elaine Denton, and Annie Potts as Aunt Sarah. There are a number of recurring characters that add bright color and unique quirks to the lovable community as well as guest stars for the various medical cases featured in each episode.
As of the season 2 renewal in March 2026, Fox hasn't shared when to expected Best Medicine to return to our screens, though that should come into better view in the next few weeks. The network might opt to keep the series as a pinch hitter for the midseason lineup, which would bring season 2's premiere to 2027, or the show could be pulled up to the fall schedule. Either way, we can't wait!
