A new season of Big Brother is officially less than a month away, and fans are anxiously awaiting information about the newest season of CBS’s long-running reality competition series. As the new season inches closer, we should get information about this season’s house design and meet the Houseguests set to compete this summer.
It’s unclear when we’ll meet the cast for Big Brother 28, but one thing is starting to become clear: it’s looking likely that it won’t be an entirely new cast moving into the Big Brother house!
CBS has not confirmed the inclusion of returning players as part of the Big Brother 28 cast, but the network seems to have planted a clue right under fans’ noses via the wording of the press release used to announce season 28’s premiere date.
When announcing the season, CBS noted that “the season ushers in a landmark summer as Houseguests enter the iconic Big Brother house, with unexpected moments and a season packed with twists and turns.” Okay, so wait, what’s the deal?
Well, you see, every recent season of Big Brother that featured an entirely new cast always mentioned “all-new” somewhere in the release when referring to the cast. It’s only been in the seasons that have featured the return of at least one former Houseguest that CBS has avoided describing the Houseguests as “all-new” or “new” in the press releases before the cast is revealed.
Given that CBS does not at any point refer to the Big Brother 28 cast as being all-new Houseguests, this seems to indicate we’re going to see at least one familiar face this season, if not more.
Although some might complain about the prospect of returning players, the reality is that fans like to see favorite players return in shows such as Big Brother. Just look at Big Brother 27 as a perfect example of this with Rachel Reilly stealing the show and becoming a highlight of the season. It’s fun to meet new Houseguests and see what they bring to the game, but it’s also fun to see former players and legends of the game get the chance to play again.
One concept that fans have long hoped to see has been a fans-versus-favorites season with a cast made up of half new players and half returning players that finds a way to pit the two groups against each other, at least at the beginning of the season. That would certainly be a fun spin for the show, and we’ve never seen a balanced cast of new and returning players.
Typically, when the show has brought back returning players, it’s been for a season entirely of returning players, or the returning players have been in the minority of the cast. The latter approach has typically made it an uphill battle for returning players, which is why it would be interesting to see how a cast that is 50% new players and 50% returning players would create such a unique experience for the viewers.
It would be fun to see how returning players stack up against newcomers and whether the two sides remain loyal to each other or begin to turn on one another. This approach would also ensure there is still a large group of new faces entering the game, which is something fans always look forward to.
With season 28 set to arrive on July 9, we should meet the cast by the end of June or before the Fourth of July holiday at the latest. And when that cast is revealed, fans should not be surprised to see some returning faces in the mix!
