We know when Blue Bloods airs its final episode and it's going to be a big celebration for fans!

It does seem sad that Blue Bloods will air its final episode this year. One would hope it could have continued to at least hit 300 episodes. However, fourteen seasons is a good long run for any TV show and a reminder of how far Blue Bloods has come since premiering in 2011.

The final season has been the usual fare for the family cop drama, with the Reagans facing various challenges. There has been the development of Jamie and Eddie deciding to start a family and the hint that it ends with some big ceremony.

Up in the air has been when the final episode will air. CBS now confirms that the show's 293rd and final episode will air Friday, Dec. 13 at 10/9c. Before that, CBS will air Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy, a one-hour special looking back at the show's history and legacy, as well as some behind-the-scenes peeks at the series.

"This one-hour ET news special, celebrating 293 episodes of BLUE BLOODS, includes new exclusive interviews with the stars and recurring guest stars who share favorite memories and behind-the-scenes moments from the past 14 years. Hosted by ET's Nischelle Turner and featuring archival interviews from the ET vault, the special serves as a love letter to the loyal fans who had dinner with the Reagan family every Friday night and upheld BLUE BLOODS as one of the top series on television. Included in the show is a rare look inside the famous family dinner scene, where viewers learn family dinner secrets straight from the Reagans' table. The special reveals new details about the first time the cast had family dinner during the pilot when they were strangers, and how that transformed the series into the global phenomenon it is today. Also, fans hear first-hand from the cast about what it is like filming on the streets of New York City and get a sneak peek at the emotional finale prior to the series send-off on Friday, Dec. 13 "

It sounds like a fun event even if fans are curious as to what the finale can be.

What could the Blue Bloods finale be about?

Blue Bloods has never been a show with huge cliffhanger endings for each season, so it's unlikely it'll go out with some huge event. It's always been about the Reagans and their struggles as well as standard police work, so it's unlikely some huge stunt.

Speaking to TVLine, Bridget Moynahan did hint that the finale would be satisfying, although it was also a reminder of why many would want it to continue.

" I think that fans will feel somewhat satisfied… but then you're going to want more. There are these nuggets where people are going to be like, 'Yes!!!' And then the show's over. It's going to be bittersweet in some ways."

Both the producers and cast have been quite vocal on how they would all love for Blue Bloods to continue. The show remains a top ratings hit and the hopes that perhaps some other network might decide to take it on. That seems doubtful but it looks like the series will have a finale that serves as a good wrapup but just enough room open in case a second chance comes.

So fans can circle Friday the 13th as an unlucky day to say goodbye to Blue Bloods but at least it ends its run in style!

Blue Bloods Season 14 airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
