The Boston Celtics and New York Knicks might be on a collision course in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, but that doesn't mean the Boston vs. New York fun has to be restricted to the basketball court.

Not only is the second-round matchup almost inevitable, but Boston Blue decided to throw a wrench into the rivalry and put it in the spotlight in an early-April episode.

During the 13th episode of season 1, titled "Beautiful Broken Things," Celtics shooting guard Jaylen Brown appeared during a scene in the break room when Danny Reagan was making himself a coffee. After pointing out the orange decaf pot, Reagan joked that it was his favorite color "when combined with blue" and that "green is a horrible color." After essentially being coaxed into admitting his Knicks fandom, Brown said, "I'm sorry for your loss."

The loss being referred to in the clip is unclear, but it could possibly be a dig at the Knicks losing in six to the Indiana Pacers in last year's Eastern Conference Finals, which came on the heels of New York's second-round win over the Celtics.

The irony here is twofold. Not only is Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Reagan, a big Celtics fan, but the series was partially filmed in Toronto, which is the home of the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors also happen to be in this year's NBA playoffs, qualifying on the final day of the regular season as the Eastern Conference's fifth-seed.

"Beautiful Broken Things" saw Reagan and his partner, Lena Silver, drawn into the investigation of a church shooting; alongside the main plot of the episode, intra-family and team issues were seen to have taken place.

The Celtics are currently locked into a first-round series with the Philadelphia 76ers, the latter of which qualified for the playoffs via the play-in tournament. The Celtics took Game 4 of the series by a score of 128-96; they'll have a chance to close the series tomorrow evening at TD Garden.

Meanwhile, the Knicks are stuck in a tougher series with the six-seed Atlanta Hawks. Despite taking Game 4 by a 114-98 scoreline, both the Knicks and Hawks have won two games apiece. Game 5 will be played tomorrow at 8:00 p.m., while Game 6 will take place on Thursday in Atlanta.

As for the Raptors, they just reversed a 2-0 series deficit to tie their series with the Cleveland Cavaliers at two games apiece. Game 5 of the series will take place Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., in Cleveland, while Game 6 will take place north of the border on Friday.

Boston Blue airs Fridays on CBS. It is also available to stream on Paramount+.
