When will wedding bells ring for Ruzek and Burgess on Chicago PD? One of the actors has chimed in with a big hint!
Fans of Chicago PD have enjoyed the great drama and character interactions of its various cops. Among them is the long relationship between Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati). The pair have seen a major up-and-down relationship over the years but finally got engaged in Season 11.
Season 12 has continued that without any concrete word on when a wedding will take place. However, talking to TVLine, Patrick John Flueger shared that we may finally know just when Burzek finally ends up at the altar!
“I heard it’s going to happen in the finale. I’m touched that they think that it’s worth ending the season with it, but I don’t know how it’s going to go. I don’t know what the story is. I’ve always been fascinated to see how they do an episode of Chicago P.D. and have a proper wedding with all of the corn and cheese that that deserves.”
It wouldn’t be Chicago PD’s first wedding, of course. A crossover with Chicago Fire had Trudy (Amy Morton) marrying firefighter Mouch (Christian Stolte) at the local Molly’s bar with Burgess one of her bridesmaids.
Meanwhile, Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) impulsively tied the knot in a ceremony at a courthouse. The rest of the team didn’t even know about it until the pair showed up to work wearing wedding rings.
So fans are hopeful for a big wedding for Burgess and Ruzek to pay off on the roller coaster relationship they’ve been on.
A Burzek romance timeline in Chicago PD
The chemistry between Burgess and Ruzek was clear even when Kim was a rookie patrolwoman helping the Intelligence Unit. They got together in Season 1 despite Ruzek being with another woman at the time. They got engaged in Season 2 only to break up in Season 3 over Adam’s commitment issues.
For the next few years, the pair dated other people and became friends after Kim joined the Intelligence Unit. In Season 7, they started a “friends with benefits” relationship, only for Burgess to become pregnant. Burgess turned down Adam’s proposal before tragically suffering a miscarriage.
In Season 8, Kim ended up adopting orphan Makayla with Adam named the official custodian. That had the pair raising the girl, and by Season 10, they were fully back together. Season 11 had them engaged for sure.
The pair still face issues, with Adam recently learning his father (Jack Coleman) was suffering from early-onset Alzheimer’s. That might be pushing Adam to want a wedding before his dad’s condition gets worse as he and Kim remain parents.
So fans are hopeful we get a real flashy wedding befitting the decade-long romance the pair have endured and the perfect capper for Chicago PD Season 12 and their dual journeys.
