There's some great news to share for Marshals fans straight from CBS, but when you think about, most of the news about the new hit series is pretty much great news. The Yellowstone spinoff series has been a massive success (to say the least) since making its premiere in March 2026, and after earning a quick renewal for season 2, it shows no signs of slowing down.

When the broadcast television season ends in May, we don't typically learn about shows going back into production until much later on in the summer, like late July or early August. However, now that the Yellowstone spinoff will be moving up to the fall schedule from its origin on the midseason lineup, it's getting a jump on the rest of our small screen favorites and getting cameras rolling.

Marshals season 2 begins filming in June 2026

On June 8, CBS formally announced that Marshals season 2 began filming in Park City, Utah. The network made the reveal by sharing exclusive photos from behind the scenes on set of season 2 episode 1, which is titled "All Hat No Cattle." In the photos, Luke Grimes is seen on horseback as Kayce Dutton and fellow series stars Tatanka Means and Ash Santos preparing to film scenes as Deputy US Marshals Miles Kittle and Andrea Cruz.

Marshals getting back to filming this early is great news for fans, though it doesn't mean we will be getting the season 2 premiere any earlier. But the production announcement confirms that alongside Grimes, Means and Santos have also been confirmed to return for the new season. The first season's cliffhanger ending leaves the remaining main cast members' fates up in the air.

While the first season of Marshals contained only 13 episodes in order to accommodate the show's midseason run between March and May, the second season is expected to have an expanded order. Speaking at SXSW earlier this year, Grimes confirmed that the season 2 episode count is expected to an 18 or 20-episode order this time around. That's the sweet spot for "full season" orders at CBS.

It's no surprise that CBS has been pulling out all the stops for Marshals with the quick season 2 renewal and the production start that's ahead of the usual broadcast schedule. For the show's first eight episodes of season 1, Marshals attracted 20.4 million multi-platform viewers, per CBS. That means with its viewings between CBS and Paramount+ combined, it's a smash hit.

Even though Marshals season 2 has already begun filming, we don't have a premiere date to mark our calendars with just yet. However, we do know that the show will stay put in its season 1 timeslot this fall and continue anchoring CBS Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET ahead of Tracker season 4 at 9 p.m. ET. The network tends to begin its fall television season in October, which is our best bet.

Stay tuned for more Marshals season 2 news and updates as filming continues to make progress and CBS makes more announcements about the season premiere!
