CBS fans finally know when their favorite shows will be returning, along with three new series. On Wednesday, the network announced its 2026-2027 schedule. The lineup doesn't disappoint, even with two shows being held for a midseason release. Although I'm excited for the return of NCIS on Tuesdays, a newcomer caught my eye.
After being announced in October 2024 and delayed in March 2025, Einstein will finally premiere on CBS during its midseason lineup alongside Matlock and Ghosts. Due to the new series pilot being ordered in August 2024, it "already has several episodes in the can." CBS fans can look forward to plenty of episodes to see a CBS favorite return to the network in a leading role.
Before Matthew Gray Gubler returned as Dr. Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds: Evolution, fans began to wonder if we'd ever see him on our televisions again. Then, he was announced as the leading man in CBS's newest series, Einsten. His Criminal Minds: Evolution season 18, episode 3 cameo came and went without an update about his new role. Finally, almost a year later, CBS gave us hope. Dr. Spencer Reid fans, buckle up because our genius boy wonder will be back on our screens soon.

Matthew Gray Gubler leads the newest CBS drama as Lewis Einstein, who is the great-grandson of Albert Einstein. Although he is a tenured professor, he's described as brilliant but directionless. I'm guessing we can expect some chaos from him considering he runs into the law. His run-in with the law forces him to solve cases with a local police detective.
Hoping this newfound role can give his life purpose, he works alongside Veronica "Ronni" Paris (Rosa Salazar) to solve homicide cases. Veronica is described as a sharp and disciplined detective who serves the New Jersey State Police. Honestly, their character duo reminds me of the writer and detective duo from Castle. With that comparison in mind, crime fans are bound to fall in love with this CBS newcomer.
Einstein is executive-produced by Andy Breckman, Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia, and Laura Beetz and directed by Randy Zisk.
It's a shame the show will not be part of the CBS fall lineup, but we're eager to see the series when it premieres in early 2027. As for what night the show will air, we'll have to wait to see when CBS will slot it into the schedule.
