The networks are only a few months away before their newest slate of shows will begin. The networks will be looking to offer fresh new spins on series and are hoping they can break through. One will be a legal drama from CBS.
The creators of The Good Wife are looking to another fresh spin on a topical subject as creators Michelle King and Robert King tackled Silicon Valley in their new series, Cupertino.
The new show will be about a lawyer taking on a high-tech company. With many stories in the news about tech or social media companies running into problems, it seems the show is extremely topical for the times. It is no surprise given the creators of The Good Wife.
The show will star many veterans of television with Mike Colter leading the cast as Michael Price, a lawyer facing the technology firm. This marks the latest in Colter's collaborations with the Kings, having previously starred in The Good Wife and Evil.
The other actor set to receive top billing is Rachel Keller. Although not as established as Busy Phillips or Colter, she is set to become a star, and this series could launch the next stage of her career.
With social media concerns across the board, will the series tackle many of the same types of stories and do different episodes about concerns with the tech itself? The show could be episodic dealing with those types of stories.
But if the series is already set to have its main arc already in place, it may be more keeping that story thread throughout the first season and series. The Good Wife was very good at having story arcs and also staying up to date with the time it aired.
Now Cupertino may have that same approach. The rise of AI and misinformation has been prevalent, and the creators will probably be looking at those topics. The only issue that would arise is that the two such topics are very polarizing in today's climate. It will be interesting to see if they choose to take a more neutral stance on those types of topics.
The series is set to premiere in the fall. It should be one that has a lot of backing from CBS veterans in the cast and on the crew. Will the backing be enough for it to gain a following and an audience as the fall turns into the winter? Only time will tell.
