As finale season closes in, we’re ready to see how our favorites wrap. CBS has given a few of its shows two-episode finales, and Watson is one of them. It’s not the only freshman series getting a two-part finale, either.

Matlock will also land a two-hour finale to wrap up its first season. That will be in one night, though. Watson, on the other hand, will see its two-part finale split over the course of two weeks. CBS hasn’t been consistent with how it’s wrapping seasons this year, and we can’t quite figure out the system.

When will Watson’s first season finale air?

The first episode will air on Sunday, May 4. This will remain sandwiched between the two other CBS dramas on Sundays, Tracker and The Equalizer. However, this Sunday marks the end of The Equalizer season 5, and potentially the series.

The following week, the Watson season 1 finale will air, straight after the season 2 finale of Tracker. Yes, you’ll want to put Sunday, May 11 in your diary for the second half of the finale.

We’re going into the episodes with the great news that there will be more to this series. Watson season 2 has officially been confirmed.

What to expect in the Watson two-part finale

What will not be surprising to hear is that James Moriarty is back. Played by Randall Park, Moriarty has made it clear that he’s intrigued by Watson and his ailments. He’s been running secret experiments, forcing Shinwell to do his dirty work.

In the first hour, “part of the team” falls ill from some sort of mysterious illness. We don’t get to know which part of the team, but my betting is on Moriarty doing something. This is going to lead to the rest of the team getting to the bottom of the situation to find out how they can help.

Then in the second episode, we’ll see Watson announce a new project that he has been working on. Park will return as Moriarty in this episode. Up to this point, he has mostly been working in the shadows, and it’s been fun not seeing him get involved. Park was some excellent casting, and now I’m excited to see how Watson will react as he learns that his nemesis is alive while his best friend is still dead.

Watson airs on Sundays at 9/8c on CBS. Catch up on the series on Paramount+.
