There’s no doubt that Chicago Fire has brought some excellent characters to our screens over the years. Some have left, and we miss them more than others. However, we realistically know that not all characters can come back. After all, Chicago Fire isn’t a supernatural series, which means bringing characters back from the dead is pretty impossible.
However, there are some characters from over the years that we would love to see make a return. There are also characters who made recent exits that didn’t feel quite final enough, and we’d like to see come back.
With this list, we’re keeping in mind actor exits, storylines to make returns plausible, and the need for more to the story of these characters. Here are three that we would love to see come back to Chicago Fire in 2025.
Chief Wallace Boden
Naturally, we need to see Chief Boden return. Eamonn Walker chose to leave the series after 12 seasons. As much as we miss Boden, we can respect the fact that this was an actor decision and not a creative one. This does also help to keep the door open for Boden’s return, and it’s one that we would love to see.
The benefit of Boden’s exit is that the character remained in Chicago. He got a promotion and is now at HQ. It would be amazing to see Boden come back to help with a troublesome situation, whether it’s the personal trouble Cruz is about to face or if it’s to help make sure that Herrmann gets the chief position that Boden wanted him to have.
Jack Damon
I don’t feel like Jack Damon was used in the best way possible in Chicago Fire season 13. He was revealed to be Severide’s half-brother, but there were a lot of questions about this reveal. He shared that his dad was abusive, but we have never heard Severide or Katie say that Benny was abusive. Then there was the push for Damon to get into Severide’s life.
It felt like there was much more to Damon’s story. It was like Damon was pretending to be something that he wasn’t to cause some sort of personal trouble. Then it was all over before it even got started. Severide found a way to get his half-brother a permanent firehouse. It would be great for him to show up, whether it’s to finally bring the truth that he isn’t related to Severide at all or to actually show some real gratitude for Severide helping him land a permanent firehouse.
Emily Foster
Emily Foster’s storyline was a casualty of the pandemic and the sudden end to TV shows in March 2020. The last episode of the season had Emily learn that she had got into medical school, and it looked like she was taking that place. However, we wouldn’t fully find out what was going on until the show was able to return.
It would be great to get a proper send off for Emily. Or it would be great to see where she is now. She could be still in med school, or she could be starting her residency. What about Chicago Med, which would allow for a fun crossover? Of course, Annie Ilonzeh has just been promoted to series regular on SWAT, but we can dream, right?
