During a shocking and intense episode of Chicago Fire, we got word that two members of Firehouse 51 won’t return for season 14. That is if Chicago Fire season 14 happens, as the series hasn’t been renewed just yet.

Caution: There are some SPOILERS for Chicago Fire season 13, episode 18 in this post.

The most recent episode of Chicago Fire saw Firehouse 51’s future on the line. A series of bad events led to a member of Firehouse 51 fighting for their life, but Boden was able to prove that the bad events were not the fault of anyone. It was one of those moments where what could go wrong did go wrong, and it led to a firefighter left behind by mistake.

As the episode aired, Deadline reported that two firefighters wouldn’t be coming back in Chicago Fire season 14. That did lead to questions about whether they would be one of the ones left behind in the house, but that wasn’t the case. Jack Damon was left behind, and he has survived. Whether he has a career in firefighting still is questionable, though.

Who is leaving Chicago Fire after season 13?

Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett are leaving the series should season 14 happen (which we are expecting). They play Darren Ritter and Sam Carver respectively.

According to Deadline’s report, the decision for the two stars to leave is a show one, and it’s linked to budget needs. The cost of production continues to rise, and the best way to save money is to cut down on the main characters. With cast contracts coming up for negotiation right now, some of those cast members are leaving and there may be negotiations to reduce episode counts for others as has already happened over the last few years.

There is no word on how the exits will happen, or whether they have been written into the finale. The Dick Wolf shows have a bad habit of just putting in a quick line to explain where team members have gone, although Chicago Fire did bring Alberto Rosende back for a quick cameo as his character, Gallo, said goodbye.

Chicago Fire airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
