It’s time for Deputy Commissioner Wallace Boden to return to Firehouse 51. It may only be for Chicago Fire season 13, episode 18, but at least it’s the return that we were promised could happen. And this episode is going to be a big one.
Titled “Post-Mortem,” Boden is around to help figure out what happened in a call gone wrong. This is one of those episodes that reminds us that everyone sees something different when they’re answering a call, and we get to see the different perspectives of the events.
Boden returns to figure out what went wrong in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 18
We don’t know much about the call, but it looks like it is a house fire. Something goes wrong, and it would suggest that a victim died due to the actions of Firehouse 51. However, the synopsis says that one of Firehouse 51’s own was left in peril, although it doesn’t sound like they were eventually harmed. This would certainly open an investigation.
Boden is there to run through the events. We can see Severide, Kidd, Herrmann, and Pascal with Boden in the conference room so that they can go through the layout of the house. However, Boden is sure to bring each member of Firehouse 51 into the conference room or an office to talk to each one. He’ll want to learn what happened from each person.
We’ve seen something like this episode in Grey’s Anatomy before. It started with us learning that a patient died, and the doctors had to go through the events of the night. Not all the events linked to the patient who died, and then other events didn’t appear like they connected but were overlooked. This is a great chance to see how one small thing missed can affect multiple people.
What will it mean for the members of Firehouse 51, though? Will we see someone fired or put on probation? Could this open the door for Herrmann to get the Chiefs spot if it turned out that Pascal was at fault?
