If you were busy getting your morning coffee (trust me, I was too), you might have missed some Criminal Minds news. When I say some, I mean quite a bit.
On Tuesday, March 24, Paramount+ confirmed the premiere date for the forthcoming 19th season of the show, which was given the green light last March. Alongside a teaser trailer for the new season, Paramount+ confirmed that season 19 of Criminal Minds: Evolution will premiere on May 28 with new episodes releasing weekly. But wait, that's not even the biggest part of the news that came through!
Paramount+ has also announced that Criminal Minds has been renewed for a 20th season, with a projected release date of 2027.
The series focuses on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Behavioral Analysis Unit, whose purpose is to investigate cases involving some of the United States' most wanted and most dangerous suspects. It also serves as a direct continuation of the original Criminal Minds series; Season 19 will technically serve as the fourth season of the Evolution series, which began with the 16th season of the show following its run on CBS and the move to Paramount+.
Like with the past few seasons, expect the beginning of the new set of episodes to directly continue the ending of the previous season.
Several big-name actors will also star in season 19 in some form. Perhaps the biggest name is that of Clark Gregg, who was previously involved with season 17 as FBI Director Ray Madison; Gregg will seemingly be reprising that role for the new season. His previous roles include that of Agent Phil Coulson in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Avengers, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Captain Marvel. He also starred in the fourth season of TNT/AMC's Snowpiercer as Admiral Milius.
Another big name who will appear in season 19 is Connor Storrie. Fans will probably know Storrie for his role as Russian hockey prodigy Ilya Rozanov from the hit hockey series Heated Rivalry, which is based on Rachel Reid's Game Changer book series. Storrie filmed his Criminal Minds guest spot ahead of Heated Rivalry's debut, and his episode is sure to draw increased attention to Criminal Minds.
No official episode count has been released as of yet for the new season, though it's worth noting that each season of Evolution has included 10 episodes. As a result, it should be fair to assume that, unless otherwise indicated, season 19 will consist of 10 episodes.
Criminal Minds: Evolution is available to stream on Paramount+.
