It remains to be seen if David Duchovny will reprise the role of Fox Mulder for Ryan Coogler's reboot of the FOX sci-fi/procedural The X-Files, but he will nonetheless have a case on his hands later this week.
Earlier in the week, Hot Ones - a YouTube talk show where celebrities tackle interview questions at the same time as a plate of spicy chicken/vegan wings - announced that Duchovny would become the show's next celebrity guest.

Hosted by Sean Evans and produced by food magazine First We Feast, Hot Ones has previously featured celebrity guests like Pedro Pascal, who starred alongside Duchovny in the Netflix movie The Bubble, and Jennifer Lawrence, who is best known for playing Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movie series.
That remains to be seen.
Duchovny previously indicated that, among other things, there wasn't any certainty around whether he would appear in the show. But in the same breath, he did indicate that there were discussions that could have potentially involved the reboot in some capacity.
A talk show focusing on celebrity interviews and eating spicy chicken wings might not be the most ideal or the most likely destination for any major reveals about Coogler's X-Files reboot. But it's not unreasonable to assume that Evans will bring up questions related to the show and Duchovny's past involvement. This is especially true when considering that Coogler's reboot has gained significant momentum in the past few months; not only did the show gain both of its lead actors and some high-profile guest stars, but production had also begun in British Columbia.
That said, such momentum is also coming at the stressful-but-necessary cost of awaiting a full season order from Hulu. In a recent interview, Himesh Patel - who will act as one of the show's co-leads alongside Danielle Deadwyler—referred to the fact that The X-Files is an iconic show and that it's reasonable to be cautious when putting any reboot together. That's what Hulu seems to be doing by returning to a historical approach of allowing a pilot to enter production before a full first season, allowing the streaming platform to gauge what the development process and potential reception could be.
More imminently, Duchovny's Hot Ones appearance is set to air on YouTube this Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
And if the caption of the promotional post is anything to hold onto, it wouldn't be all that unreasonable or even a surprise to expect "The Wings of Death" to become a monster of the week.
