Just eight episodes in and FOX has made a decision about the future of Doc. It’s excellent news for the new medical drama.
Doc follows an interesting premise of a Chief of Surgery having to start her life all over again. She is involved in a car accident that leads to amnesia, causing her to forget the last eight years of her life. This means forgetting about the death of her son, the breakup of her marriage, and the woman that she ended up becoming after all that.
With a strong lead and this unique storyline for the main character in a medical drama, it’s not surprising to see that the show has landed a strong following. Fortunately, FOX agrees that it’s a show to keep around, and we have some exciting news about the episode count.
Doc season 2 is officially happening
Deadline shared the exciting news about the renewal. It comes after eight episodes of the series, which has given us a look at how it can be hard to restart your life with people who have known you for so long. Some of the characters haven’t known Amy from before the death of her son, so they only know the workaholic and tough boss that she eventually became.
Now they are seeing her in a new light, but they don’t necessarily trust that. On top of that, Amy has eight years of medical advancements that she needs to learn, and she has a new boss who is after her because of a mistake he made that she once knew about.
Doc season 2 will be supersized
As a midseason freshman series, Doc only got a 10-episode order. This is normal for a midseason freshman. Usually, a second season will get around 13 episodes.
With the current renewal news, we’ll likely see Doc move to the fall.. FOX has confirmed that Doc season 2 will have 22 episodes. It’s rare for a FOX show to get 22 episodes now, especially outside of the reality programming, especially when it comes to a second season renewal. This just shows how well the new series is doing for the network.
We’ll know more about the fall schedule in May 2025.
Doc currently airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c on FOX, with just two episodes left in the season.
