The NCIS universe is bringing back another surprising guest on NCIS: Origins. Emily Wickersham is set to reprise her role as Ellie Bishop for a multi-episode arc. Find out how she will become involved in Gibbs’s return from Alaska.
A sneak peek for the Oct. 27 episode of NCIS: Origins was posted to the NCISVerse Instagram account. Gibbs is seen in his basement when he turns at the sound of an intruder. However, it’s just Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop, who Gibbs has not seen since she left the team in 2018. She was on the NCIS team under Gibbs for eight seasons before she left on an undercover op for the CIA.

Gibbs gets some help from an old friend on NCIS: Origins
Bishop most recently returned to NCIS when she came to Nick Torres for help in season 23 after her Department of Defense Cybersecurity team was put in danger. During that episode, we learned she and Nick had slept together before she left, and it was clear there were still some feelings present, even if it wasn’t the right time.
Now she is back thanks to the new NCIS Director, Tony DiNozzo. The Oct. 20 episode of NCIS: Origins marks his debut on the prequel series, and it appears this will also set up Bishop’s return.
In the sneak peek for NCIS: Origins, Gibbs remarked that he had already talked with Tony about keeping the investigation into his shooting “off the books.” However, Ellie quips that “my whole life is off the books.”
DiNozzo called Bishop so she could “help Gibbs on his quest to track down the unknown assailants who shot him,” according to the description of the episode, which is titled, “Shimmy Shimmy Ya.”
With Ellie now confirmed as another NCIS character making their debut on the show, this means anyone could appear either in the present or in the past. Of course, it would still need to make sense for the characters who show up, but this is a fun way for the show to connect the past to the present.
Ellie isn't the only NCIS character to make their return to the universe. The third episode "The Return of the Mack" on Oct. 20 brought back Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, with Adam Campbell reprising the role of younger Ducky. So even though the characters aren’t together in the same time period, it will be great to see two beloved characters show up in the NCIS universe once again.
NCIS: Origins airs on Tuesdays on CBS at 10/9c.
