When fans think of Eric Dane, the first role that likely comes to mind is his iconic performance as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy

After making an unforgettable appearance at the end of season 2, Dane joined the cast as a series regular in the third season of ABC’s beloved medical drama and would quickly win over the fans. Grey’s Anatomy was the show that truly made Dane a household name and was the role Dane would play the longest in his career, appearing in 145 episodes of the show.

Fans were devastated when Dane exited the show at the beginning of season 9, but thankfully it would not take him long to land his next iconic role. In 2014, Dane joined the cast of TNT’s The Last Ship, a show that would go on to become his best and most memorable post-Grey’s Anatomy role.

Dane starred as Admiral Tom Chandler, a man whose life was turned upside down when the USS Nathan James became humanity’s final hope of survival. The series centers around the men and women aboard the naval destroyer who must work to find a way to pull humanity back from the brink of extinction after a global pandemic kills 80% of the population.

The series would run for five seasons on TNT and quickly amassed a cult following. Now, the show is coming to Netflix, giving the show the chance to reach an even larger audience! All five seasons of The Last Ship will drop on Netflix on June 22, 2026, which just so happens to be the 12-year anniversary of when the show first premiered on TNT back in 2014.

There is no doubt that The Last Ship will quickly capture the attention of Netflix subscribers. Each season of the show is 10-13 episodes long, making it a perfect selection for someone looking for a show they can invest a good amount of time into. It’s also the kind of genre show that Netflix fans can’t seem to get enough of as a dystopian sci-fi drama with the perfect blend of action, drama, and thrilling twists to keep fans coming back for more.

While Dane’s character on The Last Ship is a bit of a departure from McSteamy, fans will quickly fall in love with Tom Chandler and enjoy getting to see Dane take center stage leading the ensemble of the show. We won't be surprised at all when The Last Ship breaks into the Netflix Top 10 as the series is an underrated gem that subscribers should definitely add to their watch list for the summer!
