FBI set for mini-crossover with CIA on March 30

Even with the first season of FBI's spinoff series, CIA, well underway, there have already been several crossovers between the two shows. The next is set to take place in just a few days time and at a very pivotal point in FBI's eighth season.

Another CIA crossover is on the table for FBI's eighth season.

Following February 23's series premiere of CIA, which featured one of two guest appearances from FBI's Jeremy Sisto, season 8, episode 16 of the FBI will feature an appearance from CIA's Nikki Reynard (played by Necar Zadegan).

Titled "3 Up, 3 Down," the episode will find the FBI team working a double homicide when they realize there is an even more sinister plot at hand. While working the case, they discover that something has been smuggled into New York that could put countless lives at risk. With time not on their side, Isobel will turn to CIA's Deputy Chief of Station Nikki Reynard to help stop the attack.

It seems that the episode will delve into Reynard's knowledge of the threat that is facing the FBI team itself; showrunner Mike Weiss recently hinted at this himself during an interview with TV Insider. Weiss also made clear his interest in exploring further crossovers and fleshing out the storylines that could potentially be shared by the two shows, both of which were previously renewed for additional seasons.

During the CIA episodes that featured Sisto's character, he was responsible for setting up a collaborative assignment between FBI Agent Bill Goodman and CIA Case Officer Colin Glass. Now we'll get to see how Reynard is able to help the FBI team on the case.

The cast members of the new CIA series, whose first season consists of ten episodes, include Welsh actor Tom Ellis and Chicago Med alum Nick Gehlfuss. Ellis is most known for portraying Lucifer Morningstar from the hit series Lucifer; he also portrayed author Oscar Wilde in an episode of Family Guy and the king Cenred from Merlin. Meanwhile, Gelhfuss is best known for playing Dr. Will Halstead on NBC's hit medical drama.

With both FBI and CIA renewed for the 2026-27 season, we'll have to see if CBS looks to stage a bigger crossover event between the shows next season. CIA was originally intended to be introduced as a backdoor pilot in FBI before creative differences behind the show shook things up. Following the mini crossovers this season, it would be nice to see a true crossover event between the shows next season.

FBI airs weekly on Mondays at 9/8c on CBS. New episodes of CIA air immediately after during the 10/9c time slot.
