Station 42 just got bigger.
When Fire Country season 5 premieres, a former firefighter will return to the job to protect the citizens of Edgewater.
Actress Olivia Thirby is joining the show as a series regular. She will play Cecilia "CJ" Jade, a former firefighter who left her station and home city behind for mysterious reasons.
After months on the run, fate leads CJ to Edgewater, where she meets Bode. The official description for the season 5 premiere reads, "Despite having no experience fighting woodland fires, Bode believes CJ has something to offer Station 42. And despite the serious culture shock, this fish out of water comes to believe rural Edgewater has something to offer her."
According to star and executive producer Max Thieriot, via TVLine, CJ is "traveling with some baggage" when she arrives in Edgewater. As a result, the character will spend a lot of time with Bode, who's had his share of issues.
However, the characters' proximity won't create any romantic tension. Thieriot promises Bode is more committed to his relationship with Chloe than ever.
Bode will likely serve as a support system for CJ, given that the character's mysterious past sets the stage for a series of issues. CJ has been on the run for months, so that stability might be a big adjustment for her. She has no apparent connection to Edgewater, so we'll likely see her struggle with "growing pains" resulting from a change in environment.
It's unclear what made CJ leave her old station, but we can assume it had something to do with her job. She may have a complicated relationship with firefighting, despite having a passion for it. Bode shares a similar history. He did everything he could to avoid returning to Edgewater, but fate brought him back through Three Rock. Through that experience, he reconciled with his past, and it reignited his love for firefighting. He might be the perfect person to help CJ do the same.
Perhaps most importantly, Station 42 is a family. They love and support each other through whatever ups and downs come their way. CJ may initially resist the way 42 operates, given her mysterious past. But Bode is persistent. He most likely won't stop until he helps free the former firefighter from the baggage that binds her. A family might just be what CJ needs to heal from her past.
Fire Country season 5 premieres Friday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m. on CBS.
