Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage spent its second season further developing its comedic style outside of Young Sheldon's more dramatic approach in its later seasons. While season 1 of Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage struggled to find its footing with jokes and a more sitcom-familiar feel, season 2 has improved on the show's strategy.
While still not up to par on the sitcom success in jokes of its mothership series, The Big Bang Theory, season 2 has found a stronger pulse to its storylines and characters. For as many ways as the CBS sitcom is growing and improving, there are still storylines and details that season 3 needs to expand on.

The return of Sheldon Cooper
It was previously established and implied on The Big Bang Theory that Sheldon does not return to Texas very much following his leaving for grad school. Sheldon finds his home, career, friends, and chosen family in California, and he mostly affiliates Texas with the place he grew up, more so than where he considers home.
Sheldon's visits back to Texas are few and far between. In The Big Bang Theory, Georgie explains that following their father's death, Sheldon was busy with school while Georgie was left to take care of their family. Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage has made good on this so far, showing Georgie very involved with Mary, Missy, and Connie while Sheldon remains completely detached from the rest of the Cooper family.
However, now that Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage has set the foundation for Georgie being prominently involved with their family while Sheldon is not, season 3 could finally be the time to bring him back into the fold, at least for one guest episode. Sheldon's absence may make sense to viewers who have followed the character's arc between The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. However, occasional references to a brother who never appears may be potentially confusing to anyone who has only tuned in to the most recent spinoff.
Additionally, bringing back Sheldon may help continue building the bridge between where Young Sheldon leaves off and The Big Bang Theory begins, even though the character still can not develop beyond a certain point to avoid risking the continuity of Sheldon's arc.

Focus on Mandy's job
While season 2 did slightly improve the narrative relevance to Mandy's career, season 3 needs to have it be more of a focal point. Season 2 did some decent groundwork between Mandy's controversies at work and finding a job at a different news station. Yet, Mandy's career is still more of an occasional side plot that only gets a few minutes of screen time than a full-fledged storyline. Season 2 did have a few episodes devoted to giving Mandy's career a stronger arc, but it was still significantly less time than Georgie's time at the tire store.
Mandy's personal and professional development continue to be brief mentions in the show without being fully fledged storylines that allow her to have character growth or any real relationships outside of her parents and Georgie. Even though Mandy works at a news station, she barely gets the opportunity to interact with any of her co-workers.
Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage's ensemble actually manages to feel fairly isolating at times, with Mandy's storylines being nearly always with the other members of her household. Mandy does not even get the chance to be included in storylines with her brother, Connor, very often, even though they still live in the same house. Giving Mandy the opportunity to interact with work colleagues on a regular basis would open the door to seeing different sides of Mandy and exploring her character in ways the show has yet to do. Seasons 1 and 2 have done plenty of work laying the foundation for Mandy's relationships at home. However, season 3 can take the opportunity to expand on all of the potential for character development and comedy that comes with one of its main characters working at a news station.

Georgie and Mandy's parenting storylines
CeeCee Cooper is one of the pillars of Georgie and Mandy's relationship. Yet, other than the rare occasion when CeeCee shows up on screen, Mandy and Georgie's young daughter is fairly irrelevant to the plot. Season 3 should invest time in portraying Georgie and Mandy experiencing what it is like to watch their child grow up and the ups and downs of parenting that come with that.
At this point, CeeCee is barely relevant to the show, but the character does not necessarily have to appear on screen for long periods of time for there to be a plot line about Mandy and Georgie trying to adapt as parents. How do Georgie and Mandy react when they have differing views on how to parent a child? How do they figure out the messages they want to give CeeCee as she starts to interact with other kids as she gets older?
While some of these storylines may require a slightly larger time jump than season 3 may offer when the show begins again, offering more development to the highs and lows of parenting would shake things up while adding more substance to Mandy and Georgie's relationship.

Mary starts To date
The conclusion of season 2 saw Mary willing to return to the dating world. While Mary may still have conflicting emotions toward George after his death, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage takes the first step in seeing Mary move on by her being interested in going on a date with another man. The detail about Mary's moving on that just so happens to irk Georgie is that the man in question just happens to be Georgie's tire store nemesis, Fred Fagenbacher. However, there are details that season 3 can further explore with this.
Is Georgie only mad because Mary is interested in Fred? Or, will the plot line develop further about Georgie's anger being more toward Mary for dating any man who is not his father? This plot line would also add more depth to Mary's overall character. This is an opportunity to explore Mary's personal interests in what it means to move forward after the loss of a loved one. For a long time, Mary's character was affiliated with her stance as a mother, wife, and connection with religion. While these details would continue to be a core part of Mary's personality, this is a chance to explore another part of Mary's life, one that neither The Big Bang Theory nor Young Sheldon truly could have spent time on.
By the time The Big Bang Theory comes around, Mary has not remarried. However, it was implied that she had been in relationships with other men when Sheldon went to visit. Season 2 leaves Mary and Georgie in mutual anger at each other following the fallout of Georgie realizing that Mary plans to go on a date with Fred, even though Fred and Georgie have a bad history. Season 3 will need to explore Georgie and Mary's relationship as they head into uncharted waters of what it means for Mary to have relationships with new people.
Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage has plenty of family drama embedded within the fabric of the series. Yet, the opportunity to further explore how these characters work their way through their conflict and come back together may offer an overall larger role in the show during its third season.
