Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1, episode 4 review: "Todd's Mom"
On Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1, episode 4, "Todd's Mom," Georgie and Mandy are anxious about getting back into the social scene after CeeCee's birth, and all attempts are made to meet new people. However, it's not as cracked up and fun as the couple thought it would be. Georgie realizes that certain things are better left off with kids, while Mandy's new friend isn't who she thought she was.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1, episode 4.
As it turns out, Georgie and Mandy concluded that they would rather spend time with one another, as opposed to the glittery Texas nightlife and youthful hangouts. But you need to step out of the box to explore new things, and I give Georgie and Mandy credit for their efforts.
Reviewing Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage: "Todd's Mom"
It all began when Georgie and Mandy played Bridge with Jim and Audrey. Mandy wanted to go out after she became tired of the same old routine. On the other hand, her husband doesn't mind bonding with his in-laws, especially when he and Audrey are at odds due to his young age. But Georgie is chronically older than his biological number, which plays a huge role in "Todd's Mom," although there's an episode plot where this trait is challenged.
Following her shift at the diner, Mandy befriends Beth, a recently divorced mother with a teenager. The two women clicked instantly, and Mandy was excited about the possibility of "hanging out with a woman who didn't give birth to her." Yet, the emotion foreshadowed a disappointing but reassuring realization to both Georgie and Mandy.
The teenager of Beth happens to be Todd when the couple is visiting her at her home, and it's soon discovered that he attends Medford High-the same high school Georgie (and Sheldon) attended, with Todd being a year behind. He knows Missy, who's a freshman though, but Georgie jokingly, but seriously tells Todd to back off his little siter.
Georgie misses some of the things he used to do before his father's death and becomes a father himself as these life changes force him to grow up fast. When Todd invites him to go out dirt biking, he accepts despite Mandy's objections. But Todd and his friends are just a bunch of typical teens who are irresponsible and drink before dirt biking again, which Georgie doesn't want to do, and thankfully, he doesn't.
This storyline played heavily on his and his wife's age gap, but the bottom line. is that Georgie has matured over the teenage stuff and wants to be the "girl dad" he was meant to be and be a provider for his family. As such, it just proves once again that age doesn't matter. However, he tells Todd and his group to address him by his first name and not by the formal "Mr. Cooper" when Georgie dropped them home in their drunken states.
It wasn't such a good night for Mandy either, as Beth was acting way younger when the two were having a girls' night at the bar. Mandy phones Georgie and tells him to pick her up, with the couple concluding that they would much rather watch their daughter sleep than hit the town and be in a social circle.
A Connor moment that focused in
Meanwhile, Connor finally gets a storyline that crafts into his character. He and his parents play the Game of 20 Questions, in which Jim and Audrey have to guess what he is. Although Connor remained in his usual mysterious self, the game allowed a positive, if somewhat annoying, interaction between the three characters. It's designed to be comedic but also gives Connor the depth he needs to become a more rounded character rather than flat.
The game's answer was never disclosed, but at least we know it was a thing.
