Over the years, there have been multiple questions that have swirled around Gilmore Girls. Aside from the obvious question about whether the cast will ever reunite for another revival series or movie, there has also been a particularly heated debate that's raged on for over 20 years.
Since Jess entered the picture in Gilmore Girls season 2, and then Logan arrived in season 5, there has been much discussion among fans about whether we prefer Rory with her first boyfriend Dean, her most popular boyfriend Jess, or her most polarizing boyfriend Logan. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life stoke the fires of the debate even further, and Scott Patterson now has a new take.
While most fans would simply choose Jess over them all or even prepare a case in defense of Logan (despite his failed marriage proposal in season 7 and their affair in the revival), Patterson takes his answer to the question a step further. The actor who played Luke Danes in the series shows very little confidence in any three of Rory's famous boyfriends for one interesting reason.

The Sullivan's Crossing star made an appearance on the Fox 29 Philadelphia radio show MIKE and provided what might be the wildest hot take about Rory's boyfriends we have ever heard.
"Here’s how I answer that question now. I want to take a practical approach to it. If we sort of game theory out marriage to each one of these guys, and then you look 10 years out into the marriage... and let’s say there are two kids now, and they’re 10 years in, I think Dean and Jess and Logan, I think they’re all going to cheat on her," Patterson explained.
See? Isn't that perhaps one of the most interesting answers you have ever seen about the Rory boyfriend question? Patterson's approach hypothesizes what would happen if Rory had theoretically married each of them. But he doesn't see any of these marriages being successful in the long haul due to the supposed infedlity of Dean, Jess, and Logan. That's pretty cynical, right?
However, Patterson seems to think Rory's best bet would be to marry (and divorce) Logan in the name of finanical gain and revenge: "In a divorce settlement, I think she does best with Logan, ’cause she is gonna get a pile of money. She’ll also get revenge on, who kind of destroyed her confidence in the journalism game."
Well, that's one way to look at it! I know some fans don't particularly like Rory and view her as selfish and privileged, but even she doesn't seem like the type to marry with the intention for a large divorce settlement and the prospect of settling an old score. Patterson's not wrong that Logan is the richest of the three (though Jess is an author now, don't forget), but his hot take doesn't feel realistic in the terms of Gilmore Girls.
Patterson's also not wrong that Rory's past boyfriends probably have the capacity to commit adultery. Dean cheated on his first wife Lindsay with Rory at the end of season 4, and Logan was cheating on his significant other with Rory in A Year in the Life. But Jess never cheated on Rory, and who's to say any of them would if they ended up together and got married?
After all, the fact than there's still a conversation about Rory seemingly needing to choose between her three high school and college boyfriends feels regressive. But it's understandable that fans are still holding a candle for Rory and Jess to finally get their chance to be in the right place at the right time and have the mature, adult relationship they always deserved.
