The carousel never stops turning, but one Grey Sloan Memorial doctor might be about to exit the ride and leave Grey’s Anatomy behind.

In season 22, episode 12, “Get Lucky,” luck was not on the side of Jules and Mohanty, who butted heads throughout the episode, with Mohanty looking to pull rank over Jules in order to win the attention of Dr. Toni Wright. With Mohanty eyeing a transfer to Boston, she hoped to make a good impression on Toni, and she didn’t take too kindly to Jules showing her up—despite Jules having no ill intentions and only looking out for the patient’s best interests.

After Toni was called away for an emergency burn consultation, she left Jules and Mohanty behind to finish the procedure. Jules offers to assist with finishing up the omentum flap, but Mohanty refuses to let Jules assist in any way. When Jules goes to check on the patient after surgery, she finds that the flap isn’t getting blood flow, and Toni finds that the flap was stitched right over where the blood supply should come from. The negligent actions of the patient’s surgeon would result in the need for multiple surgeries to repair the damage, and Toni made it clear that an M&M will be coming to review the case.

In the promo for Grey’s Anatomy season 22, episode 13, we see this M&M begin to play out as Toni makes it clear to Jules and Mohanty that her patient “has a gaping hole in his chest because of someone’s negligence, and it sure as hell isn’t mine.” That’s when things take an unexpected turn as Mohanty notes that Jules specifically asked to do some of the suturing, to which Jules quickly interjects, “And you said, ‘no.’ I didn’t place the stitch.”

This prompts Winston to remark that “One of you is not telling the truth,” as we cut to a frustrated Jules scolding Blue for automatically taking Mohanty’s side, hinting that things are about to get heated.

While it’s hard to know for certain what the outcome of the M&M will be, it certainly seems likely that it very well might end with one doctor being let go from Grey Sloan. All eyes seem to be on Jules; however, the truth tends to have a way of coming out, and it seems much more likely that Mohanty’s negligence and attempt to cover it up will not bode well for her future at the hospital.

Mohanty is also a more disposable character than Jules, making her exit much more likely than the show suddenly writing Jules out. We know she’s already leveraging to leave the hospital for a position elsewhere, hinting that her time on the show is nearing an end. Given the events of episode 12, we have to wonder if her time at Grey Sloan will end, just not quite in the way Mohanty had planned.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.
