There's no doubt that Freakier Friday was one of the most highly anticipated new movie releases of not only the summer but of the year. Millennials having been beyond excited to watch the unexpected sequel to the 2003 fan-favorite Disney movie Freaky Friday, and when the follow-up arrived almost 25 years later, the Disney magic was even greater than we could have imagined.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back as Tess and Anna Coleman, the mother-daughter duo who swapped bodies in the first movie. After learning their lesson while walking a mile in the other's shoes, they gained a greater appreciation for each other. This time around, Anna's a single mother raising a teenage daughter of her own, which becomes even more complicated as she's set to marry the father of Harper's enemy at school. Thus begins a four-way body swap adventure!
Freakier Friday was one of the unmistakable must-see movies on the big screen this summer alongside Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but when can families enjoy the movie from the comfort of their own home on Disney Plus? The streamer hasn't revealed the official date yet, but we have an educated estimate.
Freakier Friday will likely release on Disney Plus this fall
According to Android Authority, Disney movies usually receive releases on Disney Plus about 90 to 100 days after their theatrical release. We can see this pattern with recent releases like Moana 2, Snow White, Lilo & Stitch, and more. Thunderbolts* hit theaters in early May and is rumored to be making its Disney Plus streaming debut by the end of August.
While there are certainly different factors in play and the streaming release dates can vary from film to film, Forbes reports Freakier Friday is expected to hit Disney Plus in November or December 2025. Since the sequel was released in theaters on Aug. 8, that gives the movie 90 to 100 days, or three to four months, at the box office before becoming available stream worldwide.
In order to watch the movie on streaming when it's eventually released, you will need to have a subscription to Disney Plus. Bundle plans with Hulu begin at $10.99 per month while a premium bundle plan that's ad-free and also includes HBO Max costs $29.99 per month. That's a solid deal for three major streaming services without ads. Pick the "ultimate" plan that's right for you.

When the movie could begin streaming this fall
Prior to the movie's Disney Plus streaming release, Freakier Friday will also be available on digital and on-demand platforms for rent and purchase. The sequel's digital release could arrive by the end of September at the earliest or sometime in October. Using Thunderbolts* as an example again, the Marvel movie arrived for purchase on digital in July following its May big screen bow.
Around the same time as the movies digital release and ahead of or near its drop on Disney Plus, Freakier Friday will also likely receive a physical media release on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K. All three of these post-theatrical release tend to happen in close succession. Each release gives new movies an extra boost, and we have no doubt the beloved sequel with have a second wind on streaming.
If we were to place a bet on when Freakier Friday will arrive on streaming, November definitely sounds like a great option. Specifically, a holiday weekend would be a huge opportunity for families to gather round and watch the movie for either the first time if they missed it in theaters or for the second time. Thanksgiving would be the perfect time for Disney to bring the sequel to streaming.
