When it comes to procedural dramas, you have to expect your favorite characters to be placed in dangerous situations very frequently, especially if you're watching a first responder show. High Potential has placed several of its beloved characters right in harms way while getting into the weeds of high-profile murder cases, but season 2 episode 16 will have a beloved character in jeopardy.
From taking a quick glance at the synopsis for High Potential season 2 episode 16, you probably wouldn't expect one of the main characters' lives to be in danger, but that's the art of toeing the line for spoilers. Take a look at the synopsis via ABC: "Morgan relies on old friends to help with a case involving street artists, while Karadec leans on the women in his life during a time of need."
There are only two characters mentioned in the synopsis, and yes, either Morgan or Karadec will be in jeopardy in "Turn, Up the Heat." So, who is it? There's no good answer here, but based on the teaser trailer released for the new episode, it's Karadec who could very well be sacrificing himself to save not only Morgan but the whole case from being blown wide open (pun intended).
High Potential season 2 episode 16 puts Karadec's life on the line
In the trailer for High Potential season 2 episode 16, the team takes on the case of the dead body of a graffiti tagger that was discovered on a building. Literally, on the building, outside the elaborate cement stairwell. The tagger was allegedly hired to deface the building.
While investigating the interior of the building, Morgan and Karadec come across a propane torch and a rubber glove full of gasoline hanging above a pilot of wood and cardboard. Realizing that the entire building could go up in flames in an instant, Morgan insists they evacuate. However, Karadec sends Morgan out, promising he'll be right behind her... Well, she's outside and faces an explosion.
Morgan ducks for cover as the building's windows shatter after an explosion. Before the episode's airing, we don't see what Karadec did while he stayed behind after Morgan ran outside. Did he remove the gasoline-filled rubber glove and accidentally trigger the explosion? Did the explosion happen without him doing anything? Did he already leave the building before the explosion?
Those are the questions that are left to be answered in High Potential season 2 episode 16 now that we know Karadec's in a life-threatening situation. Could that be where his storyline in the synopsis comes into play? He "leans on the women in his life during a time of need," and that time of need could very well be an injury suffered during an explosion... right?
Honestly, let's hope not! A lot of viewers hate bait-and-switch moments where something is teased, but it ends up being misleading. This would be the rare circumstance where were wouldn't mind a bait-and-switch. Karadec can't be in danger like this! Not this close to the season 2 finale as the stakes in the Roman mystery are continuing to get higher and higher.
But in all likelihood, it's highly doubtful that High Potential would put Karadec in actual danger. As a series regular, and the second lead at that, Daniel Sunjata won't be going anywhere, especially not since ABC renewed the series for season 3. Karadec could be facing a minor injury, a little bump or bruise, but he will for sure be walking out of that building a hero.
High Potential season 2 episode 12 airs Tuesday, March 24 at 9/8c on ABC.
