Laurel Lance aka Black Canary, Arrow

Season 1 – Season 4

Time of Death: “Eleven-Fifty-Nine,” Season 4, Episode 18

Cause of Death: Complications of a stab wound inflicted by Damien Darhk.

Reunited with his mystic powers and reinvigorated with the clarity that, despite evidence to the contrary, Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow, Damien Darhk deduced the identities of the rest of Team Arrow. Then he made good on his promise to Quentin Lance, stabbing Laurel in the gut with one of Oliver’s arrows.

In a surprising twist, doctors were confident Laurel would recover. However, the second Black Canary violently flat-lined after talking in private with Oliver, a discussion in which she admitted lingering feelings for her ex-boyfriend and mysteriously made him promise to do something. This promise was hidden from even the audience, with production claiming the details of it will not be revealed until next season.

Given the importance of the Black Canary in the D.C. Universe and the ambiguity of the scene, as well as the prevalence of characters coming back to life since the gradual introduction of superpowers and the Lazarus Pit, it’s no surprise that veteran TV watchers were immediately skeptical that Ms. Lance is truly gone for good.
