It's finale season, and CBS has added yet another exciting tidbit of news for this spring's slate of shows.
After previously reprising the role of Soldier Boy for the final season of Prime Video's hit superhero/satire/black comedy series The Boys, Jensen Ackles is slated to make his return to the CBS series Tracker ahead of its season 3 finale. He will reprise the role of Russell Shaw, who had previously appeared in four episodes.
Shaw first appeared in season 1, episode 12 ("Off the Books") while also returning in season 2, episode 2 ("Ontological Shock"). He also appeared in the first two episodes of season 3, titled "The Process" and "Leverage," respectively.
Titled "The Best Ones" and serving as the season's 22nd episode, the finale will see Russell and his brother Colter (played by Justin Hartley) as they set out in search of the victim of an ill-intentioned research project. The episode is set to air on May 24.
After previously reconciling during season 1, the Shaw brothers worked to stop a blackmail operation during the opening two episodes of season 3. Given Ackles' busy schedule it was unclear whether we'd see him back on Tracker before season 3 ended, but thankfully CBS managed to sneak in one more appearance before the season wraps.
Outside of Tracker and The Boys, Ackles starred in the hit action/fantasy series Supernatural as Dean Winchester; he reprised the role for its anime series, released in 2011. He also reprised the role of Soldier Boy, via the "Soldier Boyfriend" persona, for the spin-off Gen V; he is also set to reprise the role again for the Boys prequel series Vought Rising.
As for Hartley, he starred in the film A Bad Moms Christmas as Ty Swindle and in an episode of the adult stop-motion comedy Robot Chicken. He also appeared in a 2022 episode of the animated comedy series Family Guy.
Tracker's first season, which consisted of just 13 episodes, aired in 2024. The second series added seven additional episodes, and it aired in 2025. The series is based on the book "The Never Game," which was written in 2019 by Jeffery Deaver.
There will be additional Tracker content following the conclusion of the third season; CBS announced in January 2026 that the show would be renewed for a fourth season.
The next episode of Tracker, titled "Struck," will air on Sunday, April 12, and will see Colter set out in search of a missing husband.
The first three seasons of Tracker are available to stream on Paramount+.
