Tracker star Justin Hartley is in the process of developing a new crime drama series based on the acclaimed Isabella Maldonado novel A Forgotten Kill for ABC. Also attached to the project as executive producer alongside Hartley will be Ken Olin, who also worked with Hartley on the NBC series This Is Us and will direct the new series. Find out what we know so far.

Hartley’s production company, ChangeUp Productions, is spearheading the project and is part of his deal with 20th Television to produce content across all media, including streaming, broadcast, and cable. He currently stars and is an executive producer on CBS’s Tracker, which will continue with season 4 in the 2026-2027 television schedule.

The novel, A Forgotten Kill, follows an ex-Army Ranger named Dani Vega, who lives in New York and works as an FBI agent. Dani’s specialty involves code-breaking and detecting patterns, and she becomes part of a task force alongside NYPD Detective Mark Flint. While their crime-solving styles clash, their eventual and undeniable chemistry gives them an edge when it comes to solving crimes.

But alongside solving crimes, she has a secret involving a family tragedy that comes back to haunt her and puts not only her career at risk but also her personal life.

Maldonado’s book was released in 2024, and she is credited as an executive producer alongside writer Diana Son. Son’s credits include NBC’s upcoming Line of Fire, the Prime Video series Butterfly, and the Netflix series Thirteen Reasons Why.

In addition to A Forgotten Kill, Maldonado has two other novels in the Dani Vega series, and this one is based on the second.

At this time, not much is known since the series is still in development. Whether Hartley will also appear on screen is also unknown, but since he is also working on Tracker as the lead star, he might work behind the scenes for this series.

With Tracker season 4 on the horizon and production relocating from Vancouver to Los Angeles, this will likely allow Hartley to do more in developing projects such as this one for his studio. Plus, the move will also allow the series to utilize more locations since Hartley’s character Colter Shaw travels all over for his investigations.

As more updates on the new ABC series come and Hartley’s involvement continues to grow, we will keep you up to date.
