Not long after making his exit from Grey’s Anatomy, actor Kevin McKidd has joined a new series also starring Elisabeth Moss for Hulu. What do we know so far about the show, Conviction, and what role McKidd has?

McKidd starred on Grey’s Anatomy for 18 seasons as Dr. Owen Hunt before he recently exited the role. Now, he will be seen in an upcoming series alongside not just Moss but also other actors including Linda Emond, Sebastian De Souza, Jimmi Simpson, Ashley Zukerman, and Adam Godley.

Conviction is a new series from Hulu centering around Moss’s character Neve Harper, who is a criminal defense attorney working on a case that could make her career. It involves a man accused of killing his wife in a house fire, and according to the logline, things get twisted when “a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve.”

When she begins being blackmailed, Neve “is forced to compromise every legal, moral, and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal—or else risk her dark secrets being exposed.”

The novel of the same name follows Harper as she is approached by a man who threatens to reveal not only a dark secret she is hiding about her own husband’s disappearance, but will also kill anyone close to her unless she makes sure her case is thrown out.

McKidd's role is unknown, although given how recognizable he is, we expect he'll be playing an important role in the show, whether he plays someone close to Moss, the blackmailer, or even the husband in the murder trial. So far, only details about Moss’s character have been released, but we do know Emond will be touted as a series regular while the other actors announced will be recurring guest stars.

David Shore, who worked on House and The Good Doctor, is credited as the showrunner. He will also be an executive producer alongside Moss and Jack Jordan, who wrote the novel the series is based on. Other executive producers include Lindsey McManus working alongside Moss for Love & Squalor Pictures, Erin Gunn for Shore Z, Warren Littlefield, Ann Johnson and Lisa Harris for The Littlefield Co, and Bert Salke for Co-Lab21.

When McKidd chose to leave Grey’s, he did so wanting to explore other options with his career, and it looks like it didn’t take him long to find something that worked for him. He said in an interview with ABC News, “There comes a time when you have to do other things, and now’s that time.”

Since the casting announcements have been so recent, there’s still not much to know about when to expect the series to air. We will keep you updated as more information about Conviction is released, and what character details we learn about who McKidd is set to portray.
